are looking for someone to assist staff by answering the phone and greeting visitors
one or two days a week from 9am – 1pm. We have an opening on Wednesday and
Thursday. If you are interested, please contact the church office at 570-421-3280

Pastor’s Corner
First, I want to offer congratulations, best wishes, and prayers to Bethany
and Aric Mills, who welcomed little Hazel Lynn Mills into the world, born at
2:42 a.m. on April 11. Hazel Lynn weighs 7 lb 12 oz, and is 20.” Hazel, we
can’t wait to meet you in person and to share in the joy of your birth with
your mom and dad!

This coming Sunday, April 15, is Native American Ministries Sunday. As a result of actions of the 1988 General Conference,
Native American Awareness Sunday was created for United Methodist churches, and was later changed to Native American
Ministries Sunday. All United Methodist churches are strongly encouraged to celebrate this Sunday soon after Easter, to raise
awareness about the many issues that remain for Native Americans in our country, as well as to raise money for scholarships
for those called to go to seminary to serve as pastors in Native American regions. This Sunday’s celebration will be a first for
our church and also for me. I am excited to introduce you to Mr. Delwin Fiddler, Jr. and his daughter, Kassi, who will be joining
us on Sunday at both our 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services. Delwin was born in Rapid City, SD, and is a member of the Cheyenne
River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. He performs and shares about Native American culture around the US and the world. On
Sunday, he won’t be performing, but rather humbly participating in our worship services through drumming, flute playing, and
singing various hymns in Native languages.

I will be preaching about how we as disciples and followers of Jesus Christ,

filled with the Living Water (John 7:38) Christ offers us, can be change agents
with and on behalf of Native Americans in our country. We have a large number
of United Methodist churches in our country which are either 100% Native
American in makeup or predominantly so. An even larger number have Native
Americans among their congregations. Lately, people have been curious about
their own ethnic makeup, and have been ordering tests through services such
as Ancestry.com and 23&Me. Now, an even greater number of people in the
US, including a fair number in our congregation, have discovered that they
have some Native American blood in their veins. Some of the displays you will
see in Fellowship Hall on Sunday morning will be put together by members of
our church who have Native American heritage or are interested in the culture
and plight of native peoples.
Delwin and Kassi perform a hoop
About an hour after we conclude the 10:45 a.m. service, at approximately 12:45 dance at Pocono Cinema on
p.m., Delwin and I will lead a group of interested people across the levee to the Sunday, April 8, 2018
Brodhead Creek for a blessing of the water. Anyone is welcome to join us; it is
separate from our worship experience in the Sanctuary. I want to especially thank the Ragonese family for the great work they
have done in introducing me to Delwin and for helping to put things together for this Sunday. I pray that all of us will be open to
what God will teach us on this special Sunday!

Blessings, Pastor Jim

Mission Moment
April 2018
One of the missions we support is The Spanish Health
Ministry, which ministers to the needs of the Hispanic
community in the Kennett Square, PA area. The ministry
runs Bible studies for young and old and offers various
health services for the community. Recently they took
their yearly trip to America’s Keswick in NJ for their
annual Bible Conference March 2-4th. They are inviting
us to praise God with them for the great things He has
done to allow them to take their yearly trip.

1. Interest level to attend was high. There were 95

people registered for the conference,
including 3 staff & 5 childcare
volunteers.

2. God supplied the funds needed to

attend the conference and to rent a
bus for transportation.

3. Olivet UMC provided a van and a

driver, Howie, for them to use.

Please remember to pray for the leaders of this vibrant

ministry in the Kennett Square area.

A faithful member of
our church, Tom Kear, has
h gone home to the lord, and
is dearly missed by his loved
ones. Expressions of sympathy and
encouragement would certainly be
welcomed. Cards may be sent to:
