TEACHER’S CHARACTER IN BUILDING STUDENT’S CHARACTER THROUGH

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING CLASSROOM

Abstract
Teacher is a character educator who is carry out the character education in school. Whether
they want it or not, teacher’s role model much influential to the students. Good teacher’s role
model will provide good character building for the students. Teacher is besought to
encourage students to develop and duplicate quality ethical principles and behaviours that
can last far beyond the classroom. However, students character building can be done
proactively through planned instructional materials and activities in the classroom. Not only
any other subject matter in education needs to concern about this issue, but also English
Language Teaching. Students are not only taught about the structural linguistic theory of the
language, but also how to influence the positive behaviour of the students, so the objectives of
the education will be achieved. The purpose of the study is to give an overview about the
teacher’s role in building student’s character through English Language Teaching
classroom. It also present the role of the teacher as a character educator in the classroom
and how to integrate character education into English Language teaching through some
techniques such as integrating character education into English material, cooperative
learning in English teaching classroom and Instructional media of English Teaching.
