Rippin Elizabeth O'Connell Assistant Superintendent Director of Special Education For Business & Finance 781-310-1025 781-310-1023, Dear Dedham High School Community: April 11, 2018 ‘As many of you know, since late January | have been reaching out seeking input from the high school ‘community regarding the appointment of a permanent principal for Dedham High School. During the past few months | have met with over 100 DHS facully and staff to listen to their thoughts and concems in small departmental focus groups. In addition I have sent surveys to all Dedham High School and Middle School parents seeking similar insight. Almost 200 parents responded and provided focused feedback regarding their views. Since the start of the school year, I have met with over 80% of current seniors in small groups to hear their opinions about their experiences. These many conversations and reviews have provided me with a clear perspective on the common themes expressed from all members of the community regarding the personal and professional leadership characteristics desired in their next principal. This input has also provided me with focus on the identified needs for the future direction of the school. Through all this dialog there were many people who expressed their strong support for the leadership of current Interim Principal Jim Forrest. His ability to develop trusting relationships and connect with all students and staff, along with his strong institutional knowledge and commitment to Dedham were frequently cited as highly desirable qualities. Over the past week | have had a series of detailed conversations with Mr. Forrest to thoroughly relay this information and press his thinking about his ideas for the future vision and direction of the school. ‘As a result of these many interactions | am pleased to confidently announce the appointment of Mr. Jim Forrest as the permanent Principal of Dedham High School. | look forward to working with Jim as he validates the strong qualities of DHS while working to establish a collaborative vision that addresses the needs expressed through all stakeholders during this search process. Jim is a leader of extremely high integrity with a strong work ethic and positive outlook who inspires confidence while always treating everyone with respect. | am excited to work closely with Jim as he and his leadership team grow and learn together.
