    Iowa Teaching Standards


    Standard 2: Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching
    position.

    Criteria a: Understands and uses key concepts, underlying themes, relationships, and different
    perspectives related to the content area.

    Artifact: Observation notes

    Reflection:

    During my time observing my second grade class, I have taken notes to better understand
    what I can do for my future classroom. I try to write notes every day while I am there to observe
    and to reflect upon what I learned during my time there. There are days when I become engaged
    with the students, and I may not have time to write notes. I do go back and fill in any extra notes
    describing my engagement with the students. By writing observation notes, I can build up my
    knowledge as well as using that information to look back to whenever I need to think about what
    I am going to do for my students and classroom.
