“As A National Discipline Awardee, What Can I Do to Make This Country a Better Place to Live In?

“Magandang umaga po! Ano po kailangan nila? Libby’s Brazilian Corned Beef po ba? Kaliwa po, dun sa
may unang kabinet, makikita niyo na po yun!” and off with my smile they go.

Being a good person to one’s self, to others, and to the environment can go a long way. Though one may
not be able to feel the microscopic effects, I believe it would one day present itself in open daylight from
its humble indivisible beginnings and soon would be an impetus for change.

As a son to my parents, I study hard so as to make the most out of their investment in me. As a grocery
store part-timer, I make sure that I would cater to a customers’ needs with what I have. Finally, I do my
best to become involved with activities as I can with peers and teachers in my duty as a student.

However, while doing good may make the day of the person sitting next to me, or change the life of
someone I know little by little, I must acknowledge that the problems our society faces today intertwine,
ergo having more complex causes that lead less straightforwardly to their respective solutions. Thus, if I
were to make an impact in my community in a more wholesome manner, challenging what is currently
perceived is an obligatory addendum that I must do.

Keep questioning what needs questioning. No matter how beneficial a law is, it would more often than
not have impending unwanted collaterals. It is in questioning that flaws are exposed, and it is in
addressing those questions that amendments and innovations are made. Morals and logic go in unison,
and execution of this is a duty not only as a national discipline awardee, but more importantly, as a
Filipino for his country.
