Speed and Accuracy

Objectives:

• Students will demonstrate correct double-tonguing technique at a quick tempo.

• Students will demonstrate correct triple-tonguing technique at a quick tempo.

Procedures:

• Students will practice the syllables “to to-ka-to-ka to to-ka-to-ka” by speaking them in

rhythm.

• Students will sing from do to sol on a concert Bb using the double-tonguing syllables.

• Students will breathe using the double-tonguing articulation pattern.

• Students will buzz on their mouthpieces using the double-tonguing articulation pattern.

• Students will play from do to sol on a concert Bb using the double-tonguing articulation

pattern.

• Students will be divided by instrument into two groups. One group will play the exercise

double-tonguing on beats 2 and 4, and the other group will double-tongue on beats 1 and 3.

• Students will practice the syllables “to to-ka-to to to-ka-to” by speaking them in rhythm.

• Students will sing from do to sol on a concert Bb using the triple-tonguing syllables.

• Students will breathe using the triple-tonguing articulation pattern.

• Students will buzz on their mouthpieces using the triple-tonguing articulation pattern.

• Students will play from do to sol on a concert Bb using the triple-tonguing articulation pattern.

Assessment:

• Teacher will assess students’ ability to double-tongue by listening to individual sections and

individual players as needed.

• Teacher will assess students’ ability to triple-tongue by listening to individual sections and

individual players as needed.
