Burn Less - Save More
“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents,
but a loan from our children. Hence we need to make energy
conservation a habit.”

Conservation of Electrical
energy can help to lessen
pollution and reduce the
greenhouse gas emissions.
At home, simple actions
such as turning off lights
and unplugging computers
or turning off televisions
can help us reduce our consumption and thereby conserve energy.
The energy survey, “Burn Less–Save More” is organized by the UoM
Leos together with Leo club of Central College, Piliyandala and Leo
club of Presbyterian College, Dehiwala, with the intention of having a
comprehensive analysis on energy usage of Colombo-South
householders from 18th of February to 17th of April 2018. The initial
stage of the project was successfully held on 18th of February. We
hope that the project is a way forward to the energy conservation,
which is an essential need of today.

World Water Day - March 22nd, 2018
Year’s theme - Nature for Water
This year’s theme – Nature for Water – explores how we can use nature
to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.
Environmental damage, together with climate change, is driving the water-
related crises we see around the world. Floods, drought and water pollution
are all made worse by human activities like degraded vegetation, soil,
rivers and lakes.
Nature-based solutions have the potential to solve many of our water
challenges. Together while thinking about the nature, the solutions must
be found to water crisis. We need to do so much more with ‘green’
infrastructure and harmonize it with ‘grey’ infrastructure wherever
possible. Planting new forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and
restoring wetlands will rebalance the water cycle and improve human
health and livelihoods.
The step we take today will help for the survivals in the future. Do not
waste a precious drop of water. Gold is rear, so they are priced higher,
once water becomes gold the paying price will be a life.

Let’s learn from failures
(Leo Supimi Piyumika)
“The quickest road to success is to possess an attitude toward failure
of ‘no fear.”

Learning from failures is one of the best learning methods that we used
to learn new things since our childhood. The day that we were born as
infants, we didn’t know anything about the world. We learnt to walk
and communicate with others by making mistakes since we didn’t have
any fear of making mistakes. When we become more and more matured
in our life, we fear about failures and not trying out new things. It is
the hugest barrier toward anyone’s success. Failure has two different
meanings.
FEAR – Forget Everything and Run
FEAR – Face Everything and Raise
Actually a failure is a good opportunity to realize our strengths,
weaknesses and give courage to get succeeded in the tasks. On the
other hand, Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from
failure, loyalty, and persistence. Therefore Success and Failure are not
two different paths, failure is a steppingstone in the path of success. The
great president, Abraham Lincoln lost eight times at the election and
failed twice in his business. But he never gave up his dream to be the
president in USA. Therefore we should first change our attitude towards
the failures and try out again and again in different ways. Because failure
is better than not trying anything.

Editors Note
UoM Leos can be simply introduced as a bunch
of youngsters excited to explore the depth of
Leoism while shaping their personality with
the experiences on leadership as well as on
humanity. As a club, we are growing up day by
day, in each step we keep forward, grabbing the
experiences that build our personality, together
with the help and guidance of so many giant
Leo Shanika Priyadarshani
pillars that show us the way to success. It is a (Editor)
great pleasure to have a chance to address this
audience, through the UoM Leos official newsletter, “It’s Us”.
If we have a quick glance on the recent past, as a club, we were lucky enough
to mark our presence through many remarkable projects like “Burn Less Save
More”, “DaVinci”, “Leo Youth Camp” and “Ares Championship”, within the
past month of February. This is the best opportunity to convey our gratitude
to each and every one who were there with us and gave their ultimate support
to make our every move a success.
In the moment of summarizing another successful month in the Leostic
year 2017-2018, we would be extremely pleased to hear any comments or
suggestions from you, on what we have done so far. They will be a huge
support to us, to plan ahead and continue the imperial legend of eminence.
