No schooling
for ‘up to
40’ disabled
children
Councillor describes situation as ‘an absolute
disgrace’ as county is invited to discuss ‘crisis’

UP TO 40 children in
Rushmoor with special
education needs are not
currently in school because
there are no places for them,
a meeting has heard.
At a Rushmoor Borough
Council leisure and youth
policy and review panel
meeting on Monday this
week, Jane Armstrong, head-
teacher at Farnborough
Grange Nursery & Infant
Community School, gave
councillors an update on the
activities and working ar-
rangements of the Rushmoor
Local Children’s Partnership,
which she chairs.
Local Children’s
Partnerships are in place
across Hampshire and aim to
support children and
families.
But Ms Armstrong says
there is a ‘crisis’ in Rushmoor
when it comes to the educa-
tion of disabled children.

children which will help
alleviate this problem, but

for ‘nine or 10 children’.
Ms Armstrong said:
“Something that is very
unique to this corner of
Hampshire and I don’t know
how much this is something
some of you are aware of this
but we have got something of
a crisis with places for special
needs and disabled
youngsters.
“In the borough at the mo-
ment we’ve probably got
about 40 children and there
are no places for them.“
Councillors said they
would invite representatives
from Hampshire County
Council to their next meeting
to discuss the ‘crisis’, and
could even take legal action
to make sure those children
charged with two counts of
theft from a motor vehicle,
attempted theft from a motor
vehicle and burglary.

“We need to bring

education authority here
before this authority and
they should answer for what
they are doing, they have a
legal obligation to provide a
set number of places so that
everyone has got the right to
education in this country.
“That’s the Education Act
1944 or whatever it was.
“Why aren’t they doing
that?
“Perhaps we need some-
one, perhaps a friendly judge
in a high court to actually en-
force that.”
