Design of Lift Wall

As per BS 8110 ,for a reinforced wall,that is constructed monolithically with the adjacent
construction it should be assessed that the wall is a column subjected to bending at right angles to
the plane of the wall.The construction transmitted load to a reinforced wall is assumed to be simply
supported.The cross section of the wall should be designed to resist the appropriate designed axial
load and in plane moments.Thus the wall may be designed as an isolated column with sufficient
crosssection to resist the designed ultimate axial load and transverse moments.

Floor to floor height 5m

Considering slenderness ratiox l0
r
l0 = l e x1.5 As per BS 8110,condition.3
r
= I = bd3
A √ 12A

= 1000x2503
12x1000x250
= 72.17
∫ = 1.5x5000
72.17 = 103.92 > 30
Hence the column is slender.

The deflection of reinforced shear wall will be with in the acceptable limit if the total height does
not exceed 12 times the length.

Axial Load
Total load from the structure = 8955 KN
Load per meter 8955
P
P = 2(l+b)
= 2(6750+3990)
= 21.48m
8955
N = 21.48 = 417KN/M
For unit strip 417KN

Design moment due to buckling

Madd= Nβkh
β= (1/2000)x(le/b')2 = (1/2000)x(5x1.5/.925)2
= 0.03
Madd= 417x.03x1x.25 = 3.12KNm 250
M= M0+Madd 1000
M= Madd Adjacent construction is simply supported.
Moment of resistance Nh = 417x0.25
2 2 = 52 KNm > 3.12KNm
Reinforcement
1 The vertical rft. Shouldnot be less than 0.004Ac or greater than 0.04Ac
2 Half of the reft should be located at each face 7.54 mm 2 T12@150c/c
3 Maximum spacing for the vertical bars should not greater than twice
the wall thickness or 300 mm
4 Area of horizontal rft should be at least 50% of the vertical rft..The horizontal reinforcement
should beplaced between the vertical rft and the wall face.
