*Answer any THREE questions* **EACH QUESTION CARRY 10 MARKS **

1. A ball of weight 120N rests in a right-angled groove, as shown fig (a) .the sides of
the groove are inclined to an angle of 60 and 45 to the horizontal. If all the surfaces
are smooth, then determine reactions Ra and Rc at the points of contact.

2. Two spheres as shown in fig (b), each of weight 1000N and of radius 25cm rest in a
horizontal channel of width 90cm as shown in fig. find the reactions on the points of
contact A, B and C.

3. A block weighing 1500 N, overlying a 10° wedge on a horizontal floor and leaning against
a vertical wall, is to be raised by applying a horizontal force to the wedge. Assuming the
coefficient of friction between all the surface in contact to be 0.3, determine the minimum
horizontal force required to raise the block.

4. Two cylinders A and B rest in a channel as shown in fig (c). A has a diameter of 100mm
and weighs 20 kN, B has diameter of 180 mm and weighs 50kN. The channel is 180mm
wide at bottom with one side vertical and the other side at 600 inclinations. Find the
reactions at contact points.

5. A body of weight 500N is lying on a rough inclined plane to angle of 25 with the
horizontal. It is supported by an effort of (p) parallel to the plane. Determine the
minimum and maximum values of p, for which the equilibrium can exist, if the angle of
friction is 20.
