8.3 Preparation

 Cleaning of masonry wall.

 Level response needs to be provided by the surveyor.

 Plastering Mix prepared by site mortar mixing machine.

 Storage tanks are provided for the storage of potable curing water.

 Prior to applying any plaster coat, surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, loose particles,
foreign materials, form oils, remains of wood forms. Use stiff brush as necessary, and reduce suction in
plaster backgrounds by applying water in uniform rates.

 Fix expanded metal strips with minimum width of 200mm at services chases and at interfaces with RCC.
Install plaster beads and stops as specified.

 Surfaces to be rendered will receive a spatter dash treatment of one part of cement and two parts of coarse
sand, mixed with sufficient water to give a consistency of thick slurry is to be dashed on to the dampened
background with either a trowel or a scoop to give a thin coating with a roughcast uneven appearance.

 Concrete surfaces will either receive the spatter dash or be hacked by hand or mechanical means to
remove all laitance and to roughen the whole of the surface to a depth of at least 3 mm to expose the
aggregate.

 Set the level on the surface at a uniform intervel to guide the masons during plastering.

8.4. Preparation of Mixes for Rendering

 Overall thickness of internal render (plaster) coat shall be 15 mm to be applied on internal block wall, extra
over on curved face of wall ,internal concrete ceiling, soffit of an concrete staircase and other miscellaneous
location where ever noticed in IFC drawing and project specification

 Cement: sand proportions for render mixes shall be as follows, by volume: 1 part cement: 5 parts sand.

 Protect plaster coats from freezing for not less than 48 hours after set of plaster coat has occurred.

 Job-Mixed Finish-Coat Mix for Use over Concrete: Single final coat for two-coat
plasterwork as follows
Portland Cement Mix: 1 part Portland cement and 5 parts aggregate per parts

8.5 Application of Various Coats

 Before application, the background is to be brushed down to remove any loose particles and is to be
dampened sufficiently to ensure uniform absorption.

 The render is to be applied either by laying on with, or throwing from, a trowel or float the applied mix will be
levelled by the straight edge and the smooth finishing of the surface will be brought by the travel and the
float.

 All the corners of the walls will be checked by the right angels. The plastered surface, in case of walls to
receive tile finish is to be left rough and open from the edge of the trowel, and after it has been left long
enough to set firm, it should be combed with evenly spaced wavy horizontally lines.

 After application, the surfaces are to be kept damp for a minimum of three days to allow the render to cure.

 The surface of the finish coat is to be smooth, true and free from waviness, irregularities or blemishes with
