Assessing Child’s Progress in Anganwadi

(This paper was circulated in the above mentioned session among Trainee CDPOs of
Job Training Course at the Institute for undertaking classroom assignment and
discussions only)

Trainees were explained in detail regarding the need for assessing the
performance of children and child’s progress in order to know what they have learnt.
AWW needs to make efforts to record the progress of children in an organized and
systematic manner. Trainees were then explained that the progress of children will be
assessed and reported in every quarter (Ist,IInd & IIIrd) Each child will be rated and
given grades as per the progress made on each developmental aspects as per his/her
age and abilities. The AWW will prepare a Progress Report for each Child and share the
progress in the Parents Meeting at AWC.

Hence the AWW has to collect/make the following in advance:

i. the Activity Folder for each individual child

ii. the Anecdotal Records( the interesting incidents/factual notes) of each child
which will give an insight to AWW about the progress of the child.
iii. the Checklist / Progress Card to track the child’s progress

Trainees, during the session asked to prepare the checklist keeping in mind the level
and qualification of AWW. A sample Checklist or Progress Card prepared by the
undersigned given to trainees as a supporting aid for the Exercise is enclosed herewith.

Each group completed the Checklist and presented in the class. They were corrected
and suggested to use this checklist during supervised practice in AWC in the field to
gain confidence and the checklist will be field tested .

A few lines to feel : For the parents & Child Care Workers

We walk, talk and ask each other,

We chat, pat and bat together,
We run, fun and learn together;
We read, plead and lead each other;
We glide, slide and ride together;
We ring, sing and flee together
We shake, break and make together.
We taste, waste and nest elsewhere
We tear, stare and dare everywhere
We bear, care and share together
We sit, greet and eat each other
We peep, weep and sleep together;
We cry, try and fly altogether.
We rely, relish and recall each other
We love each other, live together
and make Anganwadi a” Joyful Centre !! ”

Note for the Parents

 Parents should see the grades/remarks of AWWs & Supervisors from the Report Card.
 This progress report enables AWWs to share observations and performances about
children to parents.
 If the child is not doing well reveals from the report, parents need to talk to the AWW.
 The parents also need to attend Parents Meetings whenever AWW calls for. This would
give opportunity to parents to see the work of their children and the progress made in
AW.
 It is the responsibility of every parent to read the progress report of their children and
sign the report card. This will ensure that they are aware of the performances of their
children
