Program Assistant – Summer Student Position

The Program Assistant will support LUSH Valley's summer food production and distribution programs
including the Share the Harvest Community Garden and the Fruit Tree Program as well as provide
organizational administrative support to ensure the smooth running of programs and organizational
activities.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter, who prides themselves on excellent attention to detail,
problem-solving skills, and great customer service. This position requires experience with Microsoft
Office (including Excel). Experience with gardening and harvesting would be considered an asset.

As we are a ‘virtual’ office, access to a home office space is required (a laptop computer can be
provided) we also require a valid driver's license, with a clean drivers abstract.

This position is supported by Canada Summer Jobs/HRSDC. To be considered for the position, applicants
must be between 15 and 30 years of age and be a registered full-time student intending to return to
school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

The position will run for a total of 16 weeks, 15 hours per week. Remuneration is $14 per hour. Some
evening and weekends are required.

Responsibilities
• Answer phones and respond to inquiries
• Manage the LUSH Valley general e-mail account
• Recruit partner organizations to sign up for the VIHA Food Atlas Food Map
• Provide Information on the Fruit Tree Program; register trees and sign up volunteers.
• Pick up and distribute fruit and vegetables to partner organizations
• Assess fruit trees and gardens for readiness to harvest
• Coordinate volunteers as necessary
• Maintain and organize office files (paper and online)
• Pick-up, open and distribute mail
• Assist Program Manager with planning and implementation of events and fundraisers
• Organize volunteer databases
• Support the Fruit Tree Project Coordination as needed
• Support the Share the Harvest Garden Coordination as need
• Other tasks as needed and as time allows
