How to Write a News Report or Official Report

The essence of this text type is the ability to present a clear explanation of a
given subject – which involves (i) analysis, (ii) summary and (iii) organization.

Language:
Language must be formal, with official, clear and precise vocabulary.

Message/Content:
 Is the report divided into purposeful sections?
 Do you use the vocabulary appropriate to the context, e.g. police report,
news report? Do you use words to give it a realistic feel (for example, the
name of the police district office or news agency)?
 Do you present facts in an, official, logical and objective way?

Format:
The report must be organized into clear sections with headings and possibly
bullet points.
