Standard #7 Planning for Instruction

The teacher draws upon knowledge of content areas, cross disciplinary skills, learners,
the community, and pedagogy to plan instruction that supports every student in meeting
rigorous learning goals.

Standard in my own words

Being able to draw upon knowledge from all content areas and apply them when planning
instruction.

Description of Artifact
During my teacher work sample I decided to use iCivics, which is a fantastic website filled
with activities and games related to government. I choose a game that specifically had to
do with the executive branch. Along with the game, I expected my students to fill out a
worksheet so that I could make sure they were understanding the important information
from the game.

Indicators
7 (l) Knows when and how to adjust plans based on assessment information and learner
responses.

Rationale
I met this standard 7(l) because I was able to adjust my lesson plans and activities after I
noticed that the worksheet I had made for the iCivics game was actually making it harder
for students to stay engaged. Students were so engaged in the game that they didn’t fill
out the worksheet at all. It was still very obvious that these students were learning the
material, but they were having fun doing it.
