Introduction
Possibly the biggest concern of any Sunday school teacher has to do, not with the
lesson itself, but what to do after the teaching ends. How do you make the lesson
real to students in a way that is fun—and doesn’t require that you be Leonardo
DiVinci?

Nothing helps like a fun and memorable craft—especially one that is easy on de-
voted teachers who can’t sew, can’t cook, and can’t draw a straight line!

Here is the great news about our 47 Crafts for Sunday School:

• No unusual supplies are needed! Most everything needed can be found

right in your classroom supply closet, or in your home, yard or garage.
• Crafty talents are not required! If you’re not crafty, that’s fine. Our
easy-to-follow instructions will make everything easy for you. There are no
special stitches, drawing skills, painting talents that are needed at all.
• All ingredients are budget friendly. Nothing used will cost you
anything—given your supply closet contains the most commonly used items.
• Scripture verses and stories included! If you don’t need to spend the
time hunting through your Bible for stories that go with crafts, that’s great
too. Included with each craft is the entire Bible story presented most often
in the New International Version (NIV), which means you can simply read it
to students.
• 20 Minutes Max! All crafts are designed to be done in 20 or so minutes.
And because the supplies are generally on hand, you can fill a needed space
or use the crafts as an add-on to most lessons.

We have categorized our crafts so that your needs will be easy to find. Whether
you’re telling an Old or New Testament story, or are trying to emphasize a Chris-
tian virtue, the crafts you need will be easy to find in the following lists:

Preparation:
Make up an example of the craft using the instructions below so children can see.

Instructions:
1. Have students draw freehand a “Tree of Life” up the center of their papers.
2. While doing so, pass the spool of yarn around. Have each student wrap the
yarn around all four fingers, right near their knuckles, six times.
3. Cut the yarn off the spool and have students pinch the end with their thumbs,
without removing the yarn.
4. Cut off a smaller piece of yarn, maybe 3 inches.
5. Have students carefully remove the yarn from their fingers and pinch the center
of the loops.
6. Tie the smaller piece of yard around the center of the loops, making a knot.
This makes Eve’s outfit.
7. Have students use stick glue to attach the outfit under the Tree of Life, then
draw on her head and legs.
8. On either side of her feet, have students cut a slit. The best way to do this is to
create a temporary little fold, cut across it 1 inch, then release the paper.

9. Have them roll out their glob of play dough until it is like the shape of a pencil-
long and skinny, though not so skinny it breaks. This is the serpent.
10.Turn the paper over. Thread the serpent through the two holes so that his head
and tail come out in the front.
11.Loosely tie the serpent’s head and tail. Make a head by lightly pinching an inch
below one end. Draw on a face using marker pens.
12.Write at the bottom, “DON’T LET BAD GUYS SLITHER IN!”

Preparation:
Complete one “Brown Bag Ark” as an example, using the instructions below.

Instructions:
Have children follow these steps:
1. Close their brown bag and cut along near the bottom, so that the bag keeps
maybe 3 inches of siding all around.
2. Use the discarded brown bag piece and draw Noah onto it using crayons or
markers. They can also draw his wife and sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
3. Have them cut around each character as carefully as possible, writing the
names of the sons on the backs of them (as this will help them remember their
names)
4. Using blue markers and crayons, have them draw rain drops on the brown bag
portion that is the ark.
5. Write the term NOAH’S ARK on the side and place several windows as their
imaginations dictate. They can have windows with curtains or just windows
colored in.
6. Inside, place their characters, plus 10 to 12 animal crackers.
7. Use a piece of tape to keep the bag shut at the top, so animals and characters
won’t spill out!

Preparation:
Cut paper bags in half height-wise, starting in the center of the bottom and cutting
to the center of the top. Have one half for each child.

Instructions:
1. Pass out bag halves, popsicle sticks.
2. Pass around the quarters.
3. To create puppet faces and limbs, have students follow these steps:
a. Using the quarters, outline two circles anywhere on their brown bag ma-
terial. These will be the faces of Abraham and Sarah.
b. Under the circles, have them draw a set of arms for each character com-
plete with fists at the end or fingers.
c. On the faces, color in eyes, nose and mouth. Sarah can have crayon hair
on her head, and Abraham can have a beard.
d. Cut out the faces and the arms.

While they are doing this, you can create puppet outfits like this:
1. Take the discarded rags, tea towels or t-shirts, and cut 2 rectangles for each
child, measuring approximately 1”x6”.
2. Fold each rectangle in half lengthwise so that it is 1”x3”, and then cut a tiny “V”
in the fold so that when you open the rectangle, it looks like there’s a diamond
shape in the center.

www.TeachSundaySchool.com 16
Make & Take Bible Crafts

3. Pass the outfits out to students.

To finish the puppets’ faces and bodies, children should follow these steps:
1. Cut out Abraham’s and Sarah’s faces that they drew.
2. Ball each face up, then reopen it so that it looks really old and wrinkly.
3. Using stick glue, adhere it to the top of the popsicle stick.

To finish Sarah’s and Abraham’s outfits, students should follow these steps:
4. Fold the rag rectangles in half again so that the V is at the top.
5. Slide each rag up the popsicle stick so that the V rests right under Sarah’s and
Abraham’s heads.
6. Put stick glue on the BACK of the popsicle sticks ONLY, then pinch the backs of
the outfits to the sticks. The fronts should stick up in the air.
7. Cut out Sarah’s and Abraham’s arms and glue them to the front of sticks.
8. Run more stick glue down the FRONT of the popsicle sticks, then pinch the
fronts of the outfits to the sticks so that the arms can be seen.

If more time is available, you can have students draw a baby Isaac, cut him out,
and glue him to Sarah, then glue one of her hands to the top of him.

Make & Take Bible Crafts

Preparation:
1. You need to either buy confetti or make it using the hole punch and different
colored sheets of construction paper.
2. Punch holes until you have enough confetti that each child has about half a
sheet’s worth.
3. If using a hole punch is too tedious, you can cut little shapes off several pieces
of construction paper at once, using scissors.
4. Put confetti in one or several zip lock bags.

Instructions:
1. As you are going to design brown bag puppets, have children draw on the bot-
tom of the bag Joseph’s eyes, hair, and nose.
2. Have them draw his mouth so that the top lip is at the edge of the fold and the
bottom lip fits to it on the bag when the bag is closed.
3. Show children how to draw a neckline on the bag using markers
4. Under the neckline have them apply lots of stick glue—in lines, x’s, circles, or
randomly.
5. Pass out handfuls of confetti, trying to make them even, such that each student
can fill his “dream coat” with confetti.
6. Have the students move the confetti onto the glued areas and spread around as
evenly as possible, patting hard.
7. Allow to dry.
8. Write JOSEPH IN HIS DREAMCOAT near the bottom, across the confetti.

Have everyone use their hand puppets to greet parents!

2. Instruct them to do the following:

a. Take the first sheet of orange paper and put a dab of stick glue in the
very center, then take that sheet and put it in the cup, pressing, so that
the glue sticks to the bottom. The orange should come up the sides and
out the top, fluffy.
b. Repeat this step with the yellow, then red, then second orange sheets of
tissue paper, sticking each to the one below with stick glue. The sides
should come up above the top of the cup.
c. Spread out the tissue paper so that it looks like flames.
d. Carefully push aside the tissue paper to create a hallow center, then drop
in the stones or pebbles.
e. Cut green construction paper so that it fits around the outside of the cup.
3. Using the stapler, staple the sheets for students so that the outside of the cup
is now green.

Students can finish using the following steps:

1. Draw “leaves” on the cup using markers.
2. Write around the bottom BURNING BUSH.

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps:
1. Lay the blue paper in front of themselves horizontally.
2. Cut down the center but not in a straight line. Students should cut a very jag-
ged line. It may help to have them draw a jagged line down the middle of the
blue sheet and then try to cut along it. They will have 2 pieces when they fin-
ish, each with 1 jagged edge.
3. Lay the blue pieces on top of the 2nd sheet of light-colored construction paper.
4. Line up the outer, smooth edges of the blue paper along the outer edges of the
2nd sheet.
5. Glue the blue pieces down using stick glue. The jagged edges ought to match
up.
6. Fold each jagged edge backwards a couple inches in. Instead of matching up
now, the waves ought to stand straight up.
7. Draw little people in the two-inch section between the blue pieces, where the
water parted.

Preparation:
Cut squares from the gold wrapping paper 8”x5”.

Instructions:
Pass out the gold wrapping paper squares. To make it into fringe that will hang
down from the trumpet, have students follow these steps:
1. Fold 1 inch off the margin on 1 side.
2. Using scissors, cut up to the fold in “grass cuts,” or one cut every half inch or
so.
3. Hold the paper by the fold when finished cutting, and it ought to hang in strips
like grass.

www.TeachSundaySchool.com 39
Make & Take Bible Crafts

To make the trumpet, students should do this:

4. Take the piece of construction paper and turn it vertically.
5. Draw 12 or so musical notes on the paper, (!) understanding that the paper
will be rolled into a trumpet, and therefore they should concentrate on one side
of the paper and across the top, which will be fatter.
6. Fill in with lines of stick glue and apply glitter to the top.
7. Roll the paper into a trumpet lengthwise so that the bottom is tighter and the
top is looser.

Using your stapler, staple the trumpets to keep their shape. To make the fringe,
have students hold the gold sheets of paper by the fold. Staple the fold to the
mouth of the trumpet, and staple the other end of the fringe closer to the mouth
piece.

Preparation:
Cut yarn into 10-inch strands so that each student can have six.

Instructions:
Have each student do the following steps:

www.TeachSundaySchool.com 42
Make & Take Bible Crafts

1. Turn the sheet of drawing paper horizontally in front of them and draw a picture
of Samson with Delilah, leaving off Samson’s hair. The pair should be about 5
inches tall, which means there will be a three-inch space over their heads.
2. Above Samson’s head, use a hole punch to punch a hole for his hair.
3. Apply 1 paper hole reinforcer to the front of the hole and 1 to the back.
4. Take three strands of yarn and put them together so they are all about the
same length. Tie a knot in one end.
5. Thread the strands through the reinforced hole and pull it all the way to the
knot. Tie a knot in the other end as well
6. Write at the bottom SAMSON LOSES HIS HAIR.

Students will notice that they can pull his hair through the front, making it very
long, or pull it through the back, making it very short.

Preparation:
Create a sword template that will take up most space on an index card. A fatter
sword with a handle works best. Also, cut the tip blunt in case students are too
tempted to use this for something other than a book mark!

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps:
1. Using pens, trace around the sword template onto their sheet of cardstock.
2. Then trace around the template on 2 pieces of aluminum foil. Turn the tem-
plate over to trace on the second piece of foil.
3. Cut out the sword.
4. Cut out the aluminum foil pieces. Students should try not to wrinkle the foil,
though it is not the end of the world if they do.
5. Using stick glue, glue the pieces of foil to the sword on either side.
6. Press hard and allow to dry.

At the handle of each sword, punch a hole using the hole puncher.

Preparation:
Cut out two heart templates, one slightly smaller than the other. Your students
will mount the smaller heart on the bigger heart, so if you can use an Internet
template at two different sizes, they will fit together congruently.

Instructions:
Have your students follow these steps:
1. Use the two heart templates to create three hearts, one large on the red con-
struction sheet and two small on the white paper.
2. Cut them out.

3. Using stick glue, join one white heart on either side of the red heart, overlap-
ping them slightly.
4. On one white heart, draw Ruth. On the other, draw Naomi.
5. Put their names at the bottom of each.
6. On the middle heart write GOD’S LOVE KEEPS US TOGETHER.

Use your hole punch to create a hole at the top/center of the heart.

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps:
1. In the flat center of the paper plate, have students create “still waters.” This is
done by using a blue crayon to draw a thin blue stream, starting at around 11
o’clock position, and winding down to around the 5 o’clock position. Have them
fill in around the stream with flowers, grass, butterflies, birds, etc.
2. Write in the bottom half of the ruffled rim, “He leads me beside the still waters.”
–Psalm 23:2.
3. Around the ruffled rim, color the lines from inward to outward, using all differ-
ent colors so that it looks like a rainbow.
4. To hang on walls, punch two holes an inch apart at the top.
5. Thread a piece of yard through and tie in a knot. It will hang from a thumbtack
at home.

Preparation:
None

Instructions:
1. Pass out twigs to children.
2. Have them lay all five across one another to make a base for their fire.
3. Give each child a glob of yellow play dough about the size of a golf ball.
4. Have them roll it into a ball, then push the ball down onto the twigs, so that
they all stick together, then form the play dough so that the logs can be seen at
the bottom.
5. Using their fingers, they should pull at the play dough to create flames and
push in places to make the flames look high.
6. Using the red and orange markers, they should draw more flames on top of the
play dough.
7. On index cards, have them apply lots of stick glue, and then put the fire on top,
pressing down on the lower twigs so they will stick to the “base.”
8. Have them write in pen or dark marker, ELIJAH’S FIRE: 1 KINGS 18.

Preparation:
1. Cut out lots of circles or ovals, enough for each child to have ten or twelve.
2. Punch one hole in each.
3. Cut out squares maybe 3” x 3”, one for each child. Punch one hole in each.
4. Cut off lengths of string or yarn maybe six inches long, enough for each child to
have ten or twelve.

Instructions:
1. Pass out the eye circles and have children color in the eyes, making pupils,
lashes if they are good and maintaining the whites of eyes.
2. Give each child one of the white squares and have him write on it, EZEKIEL’S
WHEEL: EZEKIEL 1:15-21.
3. Thread a piece of yarn through each eye and tie it at one end. The other eye
will be attached to the wheel, which students will create next.
4. Give each child two coat hangers, and help them bend each into a circle.
5. Put the two hanger parts together, and then help them bend one circle around
so that it is perpendicular to the other. It should look like a wheel inside a
wheel, or one wheel facing south and one wheel facing east.
6. Wrap masking tape around the hook parts of the hangers so they stay together
and don’t poke children. You may have to twist one wheel again to keep them
perpendicular once taped together.
7. Using the last piece of yarn or string, tie the sign EZEKIEL’S WHEEL to the top.

Preparation:
1. Cut strands of yarn, 6” each, so that each child can have three.
2. Cut the dark colored construction paper in strips lengthwise, maybe 3 inches
wide and 11.5 inches long, so that you’re getting three strips per sheet. Have
one strip for each child.

Instructions:
1. Have each child color in the paper plate to be a lion’s face. The ruffled rim can
be his mane. He should have whiskers and can be smiling.
2. Have each child color the index card brown, gold and yellow to be the lion’s
back end. Using scissors, cut a slit from the bottom to the halfway point.
3. Give each child three strands of yarn, which will be the lion’s tale. They should
hold the three strands together and tie a knot at one end. They should loop the
knot through the slit in the index card.
4. Give them the long strips and have them fold them into an accordion, folding
one way, then another.
5. Using stick glue, have them attach the lion’s head and tail to the first and last
folds of the accordion-like sheet.
6. Pass out the popsicle sticks and have student attach them to the head and tale
with stick glue.

By moving the popsicle sticks forward, back and sideways, Daniel’s lion should
dance and be merry to have not eaten Daniel!

Preparation:
Cut the yellow construction paper into little rectangles, 3” x 1”

Instructions:
1. Give students 3 clothespins each. Using markers, have them draw on them the
images of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The face is the round part.
They can draw one with brown hair, one with blond hair, and one with black
hair. They can have beards and eyes and smiles.
2. They can wear different colored “outfits,” which are colored on with markers
and come down maybe a half-inch from the bottom.
3. Hold the yellow squares so the long sides go up and down.
4. Use scissors to cut tiny “grass slits” halfway up the paper so that when they
hold the bottom, the top looks like grass. (In this case, it is actually flames.)
5. Use stick glue to attach the flames to the three prophets’ feet, so that the
flames billow up the front of them.
6. They can roll a few of the flames downward to make it look more dimensional.

Students can stand their three heroes side by side and thank God they didn’t burn!

20 Fast, Easy Crafts to Go with Stories of Jesus

These crafts will help bring to life for children both stories about Jesus and some of
Jesus’ most famous statements. Because New Testament stories are often shorter
than Old Testament ones, these will be great to have when you realize you’ve got
an extra block of time!

Most of these crafts can be done in 15 minutes and are age appropriate for a vari-
ety of grades. They will not only teach the great New Testament moments, but
many involve a little bit of caption writing, which is great for preschoolers, who
just love to hold a pen. None require paint or messy materials (glitter is some-
times optional), which makes for swift cleanup and memorable moments minus
messy clothes.

You will recognize many of Jesus’ most famous moments among these 20 fast &
easy crafts:

All craft instructions are designed for ease. A list of materials needed for every
craft is presented right at the top of each entry. Most require markers, paper and
scissors, and generally only one slightly odd ingredient, such as empty toilet rolls
or cotton balls. A teacher with a fully stocked closet will have many of these
things anyway!

The scripture verses are included right along with the lesson, mostly in the New
International Version of the Bible (NIV). Class preparation is spelled out clearly,
and the instructions for both you and your students have been broken down for
ease of reading.

A simple read through and a check to make sure you have all materials, and these
crafts will provide 15 or 20 minutes of fun with just about any lesson you have!

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

Luke 1: 26-38
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married
to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said,
“Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to
her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you
are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will

give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never
end.”
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow
you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child
in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.”
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.

Preparation:
1. Cut the blue construction paper into 12 squares, which will be Mary. If you
have more than 12 students, use 2 sheets.
2. Cut 1 sheet of white construction paper into 12 circles, which will be the angel
Gabriel’s head. If you have more than 12 students, use 2 sheets.
3. Holding each sheet in front of you turned lengthwise (or portrait shaped). Cut
3 sheets of white construction paper into 4 rectangles each. Each will be the
angel Gabriel’s body.

Instructions:
Pass out 3-4 sheets of white paper to each student, and have them follow these
instructions:
1. Trace their left and right hands, using the pencils, 3 times each. (If students
are right handed, you may have to help them with the tracing of their left
hands, and vice versa.)
2. Cut out the 6 handprints.
3. Place their thumb up to their blue square—with thumb turned sideways.
4. Trace around it.
5. Cut out the thumbprint.
6. Notice that the thumbprint vaguely resembles the profile shape of a person
praying or bowing her head.
7. Color in a little face on Mary that matches where their thumbnail would be.

Pass out the rectangle and circle to make the angel Gabriel. Have students
8.Draw a smiling face and some hair on the circle.
9.Use stick glue to attach 3 hand prints to each side of the rectangle from the
back, so that they stick out like wings. They can overlap some.

10.Put little dabs of glitter glue on the edges of the fingers. (We recommend glit-
ter glue because the fingers can tear when applying stick glue. However, if you
use stick glue and regular glitter, just remind students to apply gently.)
11.Attach praying Mary to the bottom left wing so she is facing the angel Gabriel.
12.If using feathers, attach to the wings in strategic places, being careful not to
tear the little finger prints.
13.Down near the angel Gabriel’s feet, write GABRIEL AND MARY: LUKE 2.

The$Boy$Jesus$at$the$Temple

Luke$2:41952

Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they
went up to the Feast, according to the custom. After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home,
the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they

traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find
him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting
among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his
understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son,
why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did
not understand what he was saying to them.
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things
in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

Preparation:
1. Using a penny, trace circles on the brown bag, enough for each child to have
12.
2. Using a business card, trace circles on the aluminum foil. As aluminum tears
easily, you might want to cut these out yourself for younger children and hold
onto them until it is time to glue them onto the plate.

Instructions:

1. Have students write across the top outer wreath of the plate: DIDN’T YOU
KNOW I WOULD BE AT MY FATHER’S HOUSE? Across the bottom outer wreath
of the plate, they should write BOY JESUS AT THE TEMPLE.
2. Cut off a series of 12 for each student and let them cut the circles.
3. Give each child a penny.

The paper bag circles will be the backs of the heads of people listening in the
synagogue. The penny will be the back of Jesus’ head. Explain this to the children
so that they can visualize the penny and 12 other heads being placed in rows at
the bottom of the paper plate. The temple scrolls will go at the top, as if the peo-
ple are looking at it.

1. Glue down the brown heads with the penny somewhere among them. (The
penny should be heads down.) Use a good glob of glue for the penny as it is
heavier than the paper.
2. Fold the business card in half, then open it again, so it looks like an open book.
3. Glue the aluminum foil to the front of it.

4. Using a marker pen, make squiggly lines down the aluminum “pages” that look
like Hebrew.
5. Glue the business card “Holy Book” to the top portion of the plate. Reinforce
with a staple in the center, as it has been folded.
Close by asking students what they will be like at age 12!

that, when they reopen the flag, it has been speared at the top and bottom.

Preparation:
1. Create a “fish” template from one of the pieces of construction paper. Your fish
can be hand drawn and should run the width of a piece of standard construction
paper, around 11 inches from tip to tail. (If you don’t like hand drawing, many
fish templates can be found on the Internet).
2. Use the template to trace a fish on enough sheets of construction paper so that
each of your students will have one.
3. Cut the 18-inch lengths of string,1 for each student
4. Remove all pieces of cardboard from the hangers, then discard the hangers.

Instructions:
Have students complete the following steps:
1. Cut out their fish.
2. Using markers, draw on fins, a tail, and a face.
3. Using the hole puncher, punch a hole near the fish’s mouth.
4. Wrap one end of the string several times around one end of the cardboard
hanger insert.
5. Use an inch-long piece of scotch tape or masking tape to hold it in place by
wrapping the scotch tape over top of it.
6. Thread the other end of the string gently through the hole punched near the
mouth of the fish. Tie a loose knot (they may need your help so as not to
break the paper).
7. Reinforce the fish’s mouth with scotch tape if it appears the paper may tear.
8. Write their name on one side of the fish.
9. On the other side write I WILL FOLLOW JESUS
10.On the fishing pole write, MATTHEW 4: FISHERS OF MEN!

Preparation:
None

Instructions:
Have each student follow these steps:
1. Place the hand they do not write with in the center of the paper plate. Have
them close their fingers rather than open them to trace. The only finger that
should be in an outward position is the thumb, at a 90 degree angle.
2. Trace around the hand outline using a marker pen
3. Cut out the “dove.”
4. The thumb shape will be the dove’s head. Draw on an eye and a beak.
5. The back end will be feathers. To make them, run stick glue in stripes down
the back end of the dove.
6. The cotton balls should be pulled apart until they are fluffy pieces, which can be
glued to the back end of the dove.
7. Using markers, draw on a wing.
8. Write DOVE OF PEACE in the middle of the dove.
9. Write Matthew 3:13-16 on the back.
10.In the dove’s feathers, use the hole punch to make a hole.
11.Thread the string through and tie off in a knot.
12.The dove should hang so that the face is slightly downward, as he is “descend-
ing.”

Preparation:

Instructions:
Have students mix their red and green play dough together until it makes smooth
brown.

Kids don’t need much help forming things they can imagine out of play dough.
You can simply tell them to make 2 urns like those used at the Wedding at Cana,
or you can download an urn image and have them try to recreate its shape.

The important thing is that once they have created the shape, they need to hollow
it out with either a pen or their finger. If they shape as they go, their finger will
work fine. If they finish a great shape and merely want to hollow it, such can usu-
ally be done by slowly pushing a pen down into the opening.

After children have formed their 2 urns, have them

1. Write WATER in the middle of one urn and WINE in the middle of the other.
2. Taking tiny pieces of white tissue paper, fill the jug marked WATER until the tis-
sue appears to be “splashing” out of the top.
3. Taking tiny pieces of the gold or yellow tissue paper, fill the jug marked WINE
until it similarly appears to be splashing over the top.
4. Turn both jugs around so the WINE and WATER are facing away. On the back of
one, write JESUS’ 1ST MIRACLE. On the back of the other write JOHN 2:1-11.

Preparation:

Instructions:
A large part of this fun activity goes beyond the craft; it goes with learning the Jai-
rus Jumprope Song and practicing skipping to it. Hence, the craft should only take
around 10 minutes, tops.

Cut each child a length of rope long enough to be a jump rope, plus another foot.
The way to gage the length of a piece of jump rope needed to match a students’
height is by dangling the rope straight down from his nose; let him step on what
reaches the floor, then bring it back up to his nose again. Add on the additional
foot to make knots.

www.TeachSundaySchool.com 89
Make & Take Bible Crafts

Knots are often made in clothesline jump ropes to give it weight. Have students
make1 knot in the very center,1 in either side, and1 to hold in each hand.

Using markers they can color in the knots and write their names on the ropes.

To skip, the Jairus Jump Rope Song goes like this:

(slow: Two jumps per spin)

JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER WAS MIGHTY DEAD

THAT’S ‘TIL JESUS CAME AND SAID
DON’T BE AFRAID… SHE’S ONLY SLEEPING…
THAT’S WHY YOU…SHOULDN’T BE WEEPING

WAKE UP, DAUGHTER! JESUS SAID

AND THE GIRL STOOD UP BESIDE HER BED
EVERYONE SHOUTED WITH SONGS AND TEARS…
JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER LIVED HOW MANY YEARS...
MORE?

Preparation:
1. Cut foot-wide squares of fabric to make the flags.
2. Before each child begins to color on the fabric, tape the top and bottom of the
fabric down with masking tape, and still remind students not to pull too hard
when coloring or they will create distortions.

Instructions:
1. Have each student color his own likeness of the Centurion talking to Jesus and
asking that his servant be healed. Be sure to use water-based markers and not
indelible ones which will bleed through. A centurion is a commander in the
Roman army. They might especially enjoy drawing the centurion’s hat. Many
great likenesses can be found by surfing Google for “Roman Centurion Helmet.”
2. At the bottom, they should write, "GO YOUR WAY; AND AS YOU HAVE BE-
LIEVED, SO LET IT BE DONE FOR YOU." -- MATTHEW 8:13
3. Using sharp scissors, cut 2 little slits in each flag, one an inch from the top and
one an inch from the bottom. Put aside.
4. Have each student role up his piece of construction paper very tightly longwise
so that it makes a sturdy flag pole. The tighter the better. Once each tube is
rolled, reinforce it at the top and the bottom with a piece of masking tape.
Warn students not to bang them (they are not drum sticks) as they will bend.
5. Using the ribbon, have students lace a piece through each hole in the flag and
tie it tightly to the flagpole, top and bottom. Show them how to help each
other form knots by pressing down with one finger after the first tie and before
the second that forms the knot.

Wave flags and chant, “As I have believed, so let it be done for me!”

Preparation:
Cut the brown sheets of construction paper in half width wise.
Cut printer paper such that each student has a piece maybe 3”x3”.

Instructions:
1. Have students roll their brown half-sheets into what will be the tree trunk. It
should be rolled so that it is about the same width as a toilet roll.
2. Staple the trunk for them at the top and bottom.
3. Have them stand their trunk on end and cut four 1-inch slits in the top, at 12
o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 9 o’clock.
4. Have each student follow these instructions using a green sheet of construction
paper to make the foliage:
a. Fold the paper in half widthwise.
b. Cut along the fold line, producing 2 rectangles.
c. Put the 2 rectangles together and fold them lengthwise.
d. Cut jagged edges that look like the side of a pine tree. They can draw
this part first in pen or pencil if they are unsure.
e. Open both pieces and the product should be 2 identical trees.
f. Fold each tree in half.
g. For the first, use scissors to cut halfway DOWN along the fold
h. For the second, use scissors to cut halfway UP along the fold.
i. Sit the tree that was cut at the bottom inside the other tree that was slit
at the top so that they fit together making 4 sets of leafy edges. The top
of the tree is complete.

5. Fit the tops of each tree into the 4 slits in the bases. Then, the tree is com-
plete.
6. Have students create Zacchaeus by tracing around their thumb on a small piece
of white paper and cutting him out. Their thumb will look slightly like a person
turned sideways.
7. They should color in their Zacchaeus carefully putting his face where their
thumbnail should be.
8. Use stick glue to attach Zacchaeus to the tree or staple him.
9. Have students write on the tree trunk: “COME DOWN, ZACCHAEUS!” LUKE 19

3. Hold each triangle so that the right angle is at the bottom. Using the hole
punch, punch 2 holes in each—one an inch from the top and on an inch from
the right angle at the bottom.

Instructions:
Have students follow these instructions:
1. Cut down the sides of the bag so that they are only about an inch high. This is
the boat.
2. Put the piece of clay close to the front inside the boat.
3. Put the straw inside the clay so that it stands straight up. It will be the boat

Instructions:
Have the children follow these steps.
1. Take both their sheets of paper and fold them in half width wise. One will be
the inside of the card; one will be the outside.
2. Put the outside of the card aside for now. Using the scissors, cut a slit. Start in
the middle of the fold. Cut on a diagonal , so that the scissor tips are facing
the outer, lower corner. Cut only about an inch.
3. Open the card. Gently push the “V” you have formed forward, so that it is go-
ing the opposite way of the fold.
4. To create Lazarus, have students trace around their thumb. Then put a penny
near the top and trace around it for his head. Make sure he has a neck that is
thick enough to cut and not break. Add arms freestyle.
5. Add his face freestyle. Color his clothing gently with markers.
6. Cut out Lazarus.

Preparation:
1. Make a template out of a heart shape that is approximately 6 inches tall.

The heart shape needs to be very wide, though not very tall:
2. Round out any point that might be at the bottom so that it is a smooth oval.
3. Cut the template out. When you turn it upside down, so that the bulging
sides are facing down, you have the shape of a fan.

Instructions:
1. Have students take the heart template(s) and trace it on both pieces of card
stock.
2. Cut out the hearts.
3. Turn them upside down and put them together
4. Insert the popsicle stick so that half is under the fan and half is sticking out to
hold onto.
5. Put stick glue on the insides of both sides and also on the popsicle stick.
6. Put the two sticky sides of the fan back together and press hard on the popsicle
stick so it will hold.
7. Using crayons and markers, on one side either draw or write 10 things you are
thankful for to Jesus
8. On the other side write: 10 LEPERS HEALED…1 LEPER THANKFUL. And Luke

Craft #13 Light of the World Lanterns

Materials:
! Brown construction paper, 1 sheet for each child
! Yellow and orange construction paper, several sheets
! Stapler
! Scotch tape
! Glitter glue
! Ruler

Related Scripture:
Light$of$the$World
Ma_hew$5:14916

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under
a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light
shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Preparation:

Make & Take Bible Crafts

With the brown construction paper sheets, use a ruler to measure off an inch from
one of the short sides on each sheet. Mark with a pen. (Students will cut this off
to make the handle and bottom.)

Cut the yellow and orange construction paper into small rectangles, 4”x2”.

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps to create the lantern:
1. Cut along the line you drew so that they have an inch-wide strip of paper.
2. Cut the strip into 2 pieces, one longer than the other. One will be about 3
inches long, and one will be about 5½ inches long.
3. Fold the rest of the paper in half widthwise.
4. Using a pen and ruler, draw another line across the side opposite the fold, about
an inch from the border.
5. Using scissors, cut slats straight from the side with the fold up to the line just
penned in. Make slats about 1¼ inches apart.
6. Open the paper.
7. Write across the top above the slats: YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
8. Write across the bottom below the slats MATTHEW 5:14.
9. Roll the paper around so that the top ends meet together and the bottom
meets together. Staple the top, then the bottom. Push up on the bottom
slightly so that the slats come apart, and it looks like a lantern.
To make the flame, students should follow these steps:
10.Put1 yellow and1 orange rectangle of the construction paper together, one on
top of the other.
11.Put their index finger and middle finger side by side and lay it on top of the rec-
tangle, and trace around it with the pen. It will give the shape of a flame.
12.Cut out both pieces.
13.Take the short strip cut from the brown construction paper and lie it flat on the
table. Take the flame pieces and fold the bottoms so that one folds to the left

and one folds to the right. Attach these with tape or stick glue to the short
brown strip. That is the base of the lantern.
To fit the flame inside the lantern:
14. Scotch tape the base to the bottom of the lantern.
15. Take the long strip cut from the brown construction paper and stable it to
the top of the lantern in the shape of a handle.
Swing the finished lantern and proclaim, “I am a light of the world!”

I"am"the"Vine,"John"15:5

Preparation:
1. Photocopy the 7 I AM statements above so that students can see them.
2. For each child, take 2 coat hangers, and run one through the second so that
when holding their necks, the bottoms are perpendicular to the other.
3. Bend one of the necks around so that they are facing the same way.
4. Secure the necks together with masking tape and reshape if needed.
5. Secure the perpendicular intersection with masking tape as well.
6. Cut the light colored construction paper sheets into 8 squares each. Mix all the
colors together.
7. Punch a hole near one corner of each using the hole puncher.
8. Cut 7 pieces of yarn per student at various lengths, from about 6 inches to 10
inches.

Instructions:
Give out the hanger mobiles, yarn, and 7 of the construction paper squares to
each student.
Have students follow these steps:
1. Complete the 7 I AM statements on their 7 pieces of construction paper. Re-
mind them that the hole is in the corner, and therefore, the verse will hang in
the shape of a diamond. Therefore, they should write the verse accordingly to
be straight. If they are older and/or good writers, they can include the verse.
2. Decorate each verse with a freehand flower, vine, bread, cross, etc. of their
choosing.
3. Run strings of varying length through the I AM statements.
4. Double the string around the coat hanger in various spots, and tie a knot, with
the first tie going over the hanger and the second tie going under, so that the
verse will stay in one spot.

Students should name a place at home, such as a plant hook, bed canopy, or un-
used ceiling fan, where they can hang the mobile until the verses are in their
hearts.

Preparation:
1. Cut circles of aluminum foil, 1 for each child, with a 10-inch circumference,
perhaps using the rim of a small mixing bowl to trace around. Carefully pre-
serve them, as they tear easily.
2. Cut index cards in half.
3. Using a hole punch, punch a hole near one corner.

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps:
1. Write on the half index card using marker pens, I AM PART OF GOD’S GOOD
CROP. Draw a flower to decorate.
2. Place1 cup inside another for the sake of strength.
3. Place their Styrofoam cup set in the center of an aluminum foil circle.
4. Gently pull up on the sides of the aluminum foil until it fits around the cup, then
tuck in the sides.
5. Apply stick glue along their piece of ribbon, from the middle to maybe 3 inches
outward.
6. Keep the sticky side of the ribbon up, and lay the cup down on it so that the
very top of the cup is even with the ribbon. Carefully press the ribbon to the
side of the cup and tie it a knot. Help them with this step and the next, as they
may require some adult dexterity.

7. Loop one end of the ribbon through the index card with the writing on it. Bring
it up to the knot. On top, tie a bow so that the card is secure and sticks out a
little. Don’t tie the knot so tightly that the hole breaks opened.
8. Staple the ribbon to the cup for extra reinforcement in a couple places.
9. Using the serving spoon, spoon enough soil into the cup so that it comes nearly
to the top
10.Using their fingers, create 3 plant holes in the soil that go maybe an inch down
(check your marigold instructions on the depth).
11.Place 3 marigold seeds in each hole and cover them over again gently.
12.Punch 2 holes gently in the bottom with the tip of a ball point pen or sharp

Preparation:
1. Using construction paper as noted above, you will be having students recreate a
modernistic/simplistic imitation of DiVinci’s famous painting, Last Supper, with
all disciples seated at a long table and Jesus at the center.
2. Using the hole puncher, punch enough holes in the brown construction paper so
that each student can have 12.
3. Punch enough holes in the yellow construction paper so that each student can
have 1.
4. Cut sheets of black construction paper into 4 strips, each 8.5 inches long or the
width of one sheet. These will be the actual book marks. Cut enough to have 1
strip for each student.
5. At one end, cut the corners into a triangle (=>) and punch a hole near the tip.
6. Cut sheets of brown construction paper into strips approximately ½ inch wide
by 7 inches long. These will be the table

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps:
1. Lay their black strip in front of them lengthwise.
2. Lay the brown strip down on the black strip as the table, slightly closer to the
bottom than the top. It should be centered between the one square end and
where the triangle shape begins at the other end.
3. Maybe half an inch above the table, use stick glue to glue down the yellow dot
directly in the center widthwise. This will represent Jesus’ face.
4. Using a tiny strip of aluminum foil, twist it around until it is strong. Using stick
glue, lay it in a half circle around the top half of the head of Christ, like an aura.
Cut off any unneeded length.
5. On either side of Jesus, glue down 6 brown dots, representing the heads of the
disciples. They can be of slightly varying heights.
6. Cut out a tiny red rectangle. This will be the cup of the New Covenant. Glue it
down in front of Jesus on the table so that it stands tall.
7. Cut out a larger yellow rectangle. This will be the loaf of bread that is the body
of Christ. Glue it down in front of Jesus on the table so that it is wide.

7 Crafts to Help Teach Biblical “Lists”

The Bible is full of lists of virtues, and we’d all like our Sunday school students to
learn them. Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) and Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5)
are just a couple of examples!

These fun and easy crafts, using only usual Sunday school supplies, will help stu-
dents do just that!

Crafts are as follows, with the particular “List” implied in the title:

#1 Sermon on the Mount “Blessed Are” Wreath

#2 Fruits of the Spirit Charm Bracelet
#3 Corinthians 13 “Love Is” Sash
#4 Ten Commandment Scrolls
#5 Jesus’ “I AM” Statements Crowns
#6 Bible Names for Christ Fans
#7 Salvation Scriptures Dice

Because the point of the crafts are to help students memorize, we are including in
instructions that students actually write out the items of the list using pens or
marker pens. However, if this task is too awesome for younger students, you can
print them out, being careful of the sizes needed.

Either way, we’re confident your students will know a lot of items from some of the
Bible’s most famous “lists” after doing a few of these crafts!

Preparation:
1. Create an accordion fan for students so they can see how to fold forward and
backward.
2. Create a large copy of the 10 names for Christ in the Bible as per the list above.

Instructions:
Have children follow these steps:
1. Fold the large sheet of paper like an accordion in sections about an inch wide.
Generally, as children fold, their folds get slightly larger. Therefore at the end,
they should have 10 sections on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.
2. Have them open the paper and write the 10 names for Jesus on the same side,
one in each section. If they are good writers have them also write down the
verse number!
3. Turn the fan over, and on the other side, write crosswise in big letters, close to
the top, NAMES FOR JESUS, and decorate with flowers and rainbows, etc.
4. In the bottom of the first and last folded sections, punch a hole.
5. Fold up the fan, spreading the top and pinching the bottom.
6. Staple the folds together at the bottom, leaving free the first and last with the
hole punch
7. Thread the ribbon into the first hole and around the base to the second hole,
around to the back, and back to the start again. The holes will help hold the
ribbon in place.
8. Tie a nice bow with the ribbon. You should have enough to make double loops.

1. Using one of the tissue boxes, trace around. Cut 6 squares for each student in
different colors (if possible, use a paper cutter for accuracy and to save time).
2. Make a large copy of the 6 Most Popular Salvation Scriptures that your students
can see while working.

Instructions:
Have students follow these steps:
1. Using generous lines of stick glue, attach their 6 squares to all sides of the tis-
sue box.
2. Instead of putting dice dots on each side, write only the scripture book/chapter/
number, 1 on each side.
3. As they write the verse book/chapter/number, they should practice saying that
verse.

When students are finished, they can take turns throwing their dice onto the floor
and seeing which verse surfaces. The student who can say most of the verse wins
the game! (You may have to prompt often at first with the first three words.)
