DEFINITION OF TERMS

Student- a person formally engaged in learning, especially one enrolled in a school or


college; pupil

Smoking -smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in


cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Casual smoking is the act of smoking only occasionally,
usually in a social situation or to relieve stress. A smoking habit is a physical addiction to
tobacco products. Many health experts now regard habitual smoking as a psychological
addiction, too, and one with serious health consequences.

Motives- the reason for a certain course of action, whether conscious or unconscious

Effects- a change that is a result or consequence of an action or other cause.

Habit - A behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that


shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance.

Cigarette- a slender roll of cut tobacco enclosed in paper and meant to be smoked; also:
a similar roll of another substance (as marijuana)

Nicotine - a toxic colorless or yellowish oily liquid that is the chief active constituent of
tobacco. It acts as a stimulant in small doses, but in larger amounts blocks the action of
autonomic nerve and skeletal muscle cells. Nicotine is also used in insecticides.

Disease -a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the


body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons,
nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors;
illness; sickness; ailment.
