A2 + B2 = C2

902 + B2 = 1262

8100 + B2 = 15876

B2 = 7776

√𝑏2 = √7776

B = 88.18

In Algebra 1, we were told to choose a math problem and explain it. They Pythagorean

Theorem is how to find the length of a missing side of a triangle. The original problem I used for

this equation is that there is a 126ft long ladder leaning against a wall. The distance the bottom

the bottom of the ladder from the wall is 90ft. How far up the wall does the ladder reach? To

determine the height of the wall you would first set up the equation as A2 + B2 = C2. Then you

would plug the numbers into the equation (902 + B2 = 1262). The next step is to square 90 and

126 which would bring you to 8100 + B2 = 15876. The next step is to subtract 8100 from both

sides which would bring you to B2 = 7776. Next you would find the square root of B2 and 7776

which would be B = 88.18. The answer would be 88.18 which is how far up the wall the ladder

reaches.
