Interesting outcomes from research

 Less deviant/criminal behavior stigma than originally thought

 A lot of articles that listed deviant/criminal were from perspective of police officers

 Tone of articles seemed to be relatable/sympathetic

 Both sides of political parties were in support of funding

 Not a lot of discussion about layperson access

Experience

My experience conducting undergrad research for this independent study has been unlike

anything I’ve done before. I am a social work major and am studying public health as my minor.

I am hoping to go into the macro-level practice of social work to advocate and find new

programs that will be beneficial to people struggling with substance abuse. This topic was

interesting to me because I have done multiple papers and different research on the effects of the

opioid epidemic that has spread across the country and have noticed that there is not a lot of talk

about Nalaxone or Narcan. Working on this project I have not only learned how to code, I

learned how to set up and propose research questions to answer. Additionally, I learned more

about the topic and the ways in which it is discussed and portrayed in the media.
