General Information About the IEA School Library

The Intensive Education Academy School Library is currently

undergoing changes to update and improve the library materials and
services in development of the space and program into the school's
“learning hub.” The library materials will reflect a specialized
collection developed for the varying needs and abilities of the
students, while encouraging use of materials for a variety of
classroom and leisure reading. The IEA School Library is meant to
provide materials that support the curriculum and materials that are
of high-interest and appropriate for a wide age and ability range of
students in a variety of formats.

The IEA School Library operates on part fixed and part flexible
schedule. Each classroom is scheduled to visit the library for one 45-
minute or 30-minute period per every other week. Periods that are not
scheduled to be used by classes may be used in a flexible schedule.
The space is available for classes or students to use for reading and
other learning activities at the teachers or support staffs
discretion. In the morning between 8:00-8:30, and the afternoon
between 2:30-2:45, students are able to visit the library to return
and borrow books. The library can be used as an active or quiet space
for students who are prepared to conduct themselves in alignment with
the IEA School Libraries Policies and Procedures. The library is open
to any and all learning that supports the individual and group needs
of the students of TEA.

While in the school library, students are encouraged to browse,

read, and select books independently or with the support of their
teachers or support staff. Library class periods can be supplemented
with periodic programming and book displays like Read Across America,
Poetry Month, Children’s Book Week, etc. Resources to support student
learning and overall achievement will be provided for any programming.
The collection reflects a variety of interests and abilities and
parents should review selections with their children to ensure the
books are acceptable or appropriate topics for that student's needs
and interests.
