11 TO CONGRATULATE PINEVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
12 UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY.
13
14 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to
15 recognize Pineview Elementary School as it celebrates this
16 important milestone on April 29, 2018; and
17
18 Whereas, Pineview School had its beginnings in the early 1900s
19 when two schools, Delingo and Halfway, were combined. The
20 original school was named for the pine woods surrounding it; and
21
22 Whereas, Pineview as it currently stands opened in 1968. The new
23 school was built on the original site, with the addition of 4.1 acres.
24 Pineview opened with Mr. Gunter as principal and with a faculty of
25 ten teachers and a librarian. The staff consisted of a secretary,
26 janitor, maid, and three lunchroom workers; and
27
28 Whereas, with the growth of the surrounding residential areas, the
29 school added classrooms in 1974 and 1978. Members of the faculty
30 participated in the planning of this classroom addition; and
31
32 Whereas, Pineview’s current principal, David Sims, has served in
33 this capacity since 2012. He will be the new principal at Riverbank
34 Elementary, which combines Pineview and Brookland-Cayce
35 Grammar School No. 1 and will open in August 2018. Karen Embler
36 has served as assistant principal since 2008; and
37
38 Whereas, current board members include Linda Alford-Wooten,
39 Bill Bingham, Jr., ElizaBeth Branham, Brad Giles, Cynthia “Cindy”
40 Kessler, Catherine “Cay” Kessler, and Kevin Key. The district
41 superintendent is Dr. William B. James, Jr.; and

1 Whereas, the mission of Pineview Elementary School is to grow
2 lifelong readers, writers, and problem solvers. Pineview aims to be
3 a regionally recognized site for best practices and achievement and
4 is guided by a belief that every decision and action must be based
5 on the needs of students, emphasizing collaborative learning
6 experiences and community involvement; and
7
8 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for
9 the dedicated serviced of Pineview Elementary School to the
10 Lexington County community and the State of South Carolina.
11 Now, therefore,

13 Be it resolved by the Senate:
14
15 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
16 congratulate Pineview Elementary School upon the occasion of its
17 fiftieth anniversary.
18
19 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
20 Pineview Elementary School.
