CHAPTER ONE - PAY UP

1A. EXT ALLEY WAY. NIGHT

The alley is wide with a quiet street sitting beyond it.
DAVE, an ex military mid 20 year old runs in from the right
end of the alley leans on the left wall panting heavily, he
slips down to the floor. He has just come running out of a
local club away from MR JONES and his GOONS. The disruption
was a result of DAVE failing to reimburse MR JONES of a
loan made. The loan was needed by DAVE as he struggled to
adjust back to society after fighting abroad. His distress
is tracended by jump cuts as he counts the little money he
has before sitting down with his head leant back onto the
wall. A close up of DAVE shows him doze off in a haze. The
sound of guns and explosions simmers in at the same time.

1.2. EXT. ALLEY WAY. EARLY MORNING

The image is match cut with DAVE sitting asleep against the
alleyway wall. MR JONES is knelt staring at DAVE. He stares
for some time before bursting out
MR JONES
Dave!
DAVE snaps awake before processing the situation. MR JONES
takes his suglasses off, looks around, back to DAVE and
shakes his head.
MR JONES
(Tuts 3 times) Dave, Dave, Dave.
You wanna tell me whats going on?
DAVE's eyes move down from MR JONES to the floor. He dosn't
say anything. MR JONES awaits a reply, nods and puts his
sunglasses back on. He steps back before winging his leg
into Dave's stomach.
MR JONES
You see David, when a man of my
position, (takes a breath)...makes
deals, in favour of my associates,
A second kick is made to DAVE's stomach
MR JONES
I don't expect them to be broken.

MR JONES

club for fucks sake!
MR JONES walks back over and neals infornt of DAVE. DAVE's
consiuosness is playing with him. MR JONES grabs DAVE by
the face to get his attention.
MR JONES
We are not done David. (shouting)
Carry on lootin, carry on
providing. Pay back what you owe!
MR JONES shoves DAVE by his face and gets up. MR JONES and
the GOONS walk back down the alley to exit right.
MR JONES
(As he walks away) And who knows,
maybe you'll carry on living.
(laughs as he walks off)

DAVE sits in pain trying to process what just happened.

FADE OUT.

CHAPTER TWO - WHERE ARE YOU DAVE?

2. INT. DAVE'S HOUSE - NIGHT, SOME MONTHS AFTER

DAVE sits in his small living room watching the television.
He has been living a life of terror and violence, exactly
what he fled the army from. DAVE's mind can't process the
innconet lives he has toyed with. The TV plays news reports
of violence abroad. The sound of guns and explosions sends
DAVE into a trance that combines his actions both in the
army and abroad. The sound of war and suffering screams in
his ears and he can't bear it. He grabs the TV remote to
and switches the TV off. It is silent in the room and DAVE
is shaken up. His phone makes a noise - he has a voicemail.
Dave taps the phone to hear it, his mothers voice comes
onto the phone.

DAVE'S MUM
Hi Dave, it's Mum. We haven't
heard from you in quite a while so
I thought I'd leave a message. Bit
silly of me really, I know you're
not supposed to have these things
out there...I thought it would be
worth a try. I hope you're
well...Your're brother misses you
very much, he turned eighteen last
Sunday, I didn't think you'd
forget but then again you are on
the other side of the planet,
fighting for us over here. I told
him you may not have been able to
contact us... and he understands.
Strange though, I contacted your
barrack, but they said you'd been
dispatced further into the country
but we haven't heard from you. No
message no letter no calls,
nothing Dave!
DAVE"S MUM'S voice quiets for a second before a soft sob
echos down the line.
DAVE'S MUM
(Weeping) We really miss you Dave!
I know you're strong... you are so
brave... and you will always be my
son but isn't it time to come
home, away from all the chaos,
clear your head. Settle down.
There is a short pauce.
DAVE'S MUM
I love you David, take care now.
Voicemail ends.
While the phone call takes place Dave gets up and puts an
old DVD into the TV - an old fmaily video. The weeping
voice of DAVE"S MUM is combined with her own voice from the
home video. When the phone call ends, we hear from the TV:
DAVE'S MUM
David can you say I love you Mum?
BABY DAVE
I love mama.
Dave sobs in his chair, alone.

EMILY
Crazy about all those robberies

DAVE rapidly shuts the paper and looks up at EMILY.
EMILY
The girls reckon it's one guy but
I said they'd of caught him by
now.
DAVE takes a moment to reply as EMILY meets his eye.
DAVE
Yeah, well, I mean, it can't be
just one guy, I read the robberies
were quite spread apart.
EMILY
Exactly! Imagine if it was one guy
though, I bet he'd be loaded. What
do you do?
DAVE
Uh-
EMILY
Sorry that was so rude! I havent
asked your name.

regonise the lady at the counter.
EMILY
Oh so you knew the owner George?
DAVE
I knew him as much as a regular
would.
EMILY
Well the girls said -
EMILY looks over her shoulder around the empty section of
the cafe DAVE is sat in. She crouchs over and sits in the
chair opposite DAVE.
EMILY
The girls said he his wife left
and he went a bit crazy, couldn't
look after the place any more. Hey
maybe he's one on that robbing
spree ha!
DAVE chuckles with EMILY
DAVE
Aha. I don't think George is quite
capable of that.
EMILY's giggle dies out before DAVE, she looks at his
drink.
EMILY
(Scruches nose) Black coffee?
DAVE
Gives me the illusion I'm awake,
EMILY
I'm more of a green tea, skinny
late drinker, you know goes to
town buys a £5 smoothie, then
wonders why I can't afford the top
I wanted from H&M!
DAVE and EMILY both share a giggle

blankly.
MR JONES
Can I get you a drink Dave?
DAVE shakes his head.
MR JONES
Suit yourself.
MR JONES turns around to pour himself a drink.
MR JONES
You see Dave, that's what I like
about you. Straight to the point.
It's almost like you love what you
do.
MR JONES turns to face DAVE.
MR JONES
Do you like what you do Dave?
MR JONES smirks at DAVE who sits staring at the desk.
MR JONES

MR JONES

comprehend whether anything
actually goes on inside that head
of yours. So I'm going to make
this very clear to you. If that
bag ain't full by Thursday, well
lets put it this way... we won't
be putting money in the bag.

route.
EMILY
So how are you?
DAVE
Uh... I'm fine thanks, yourelf?
EMILY
Yeah fine...I'm quite tired
though... long shift today.
DAVE
Oh right..
Dave looks down the cafe behind him.
DAVE
Quite busy today was it?
EMILY
Yeah (still facing the coffee
machine) it's strange though, the
last place I worked in a day like
this would be quiet a hell.
EMILY turns with coffee and places it in front of DAVE.
EMILY
It's strange not being busy here
is doing better than nothing, can
I get you anything else?
DAVE
No thanks.
Dave reaches towards the right side of his trousers where
both his wallet and pistol sit. The audience is left a long
shot of DAVE removing and item from that pocket of which
