1a.

Focus – Average
1b. My essay makes a claim involving the songs role in a controversy but it is backed up by both
summary and analysis rather than just 100% analysis but the content is all relevant to the paper.
There is analysis of the many sides of the controversy.
1c. "Look at Me, a song by XXXTentacion blew up at the end of 2017 and upon further analysis,
themes of both violence and race appear in both the song and its music video."

2a. Research – Average

2b. I used the correct amount of sources and I used my sources to help the reader connect to the
controversy and hint what I will be discussing. I did not give myself a better grade because I did
perfectly integrate these sources into fluid sentences and I did not use many references.
2c. "Four months after his arrest based on domestic abuse claims, Onfroy's (XXXTentacion)
debut single, "Look at Me," released under his rap moniker XXXTentacion debuted at No. 95 on
the Billboard Hot 100. This relates to not only the controversy involving violence but the
controversy of whether it is okay for someone with a previous criminal background to become a
popular figure. (RYS)"

3a. Ideas, Support, Development - Strong

3b. I incorporated rhetorical analysis of the song lyrics, visual analysis of the music video, and
scholarly and non-scholarly sources. Mainly using quotes and some summary, all the information
relates to the purpose of the paper. The quotes also back up the current point I am talking about.
3c. "During the middle of the music video, XXXTentacion decided to include a scene where a
white child is lynched in front of a black child. This scene was supposedly meant to support the
Black Lives Matter movement, but most watchers interpreted it as support for pro-racism or anti-
racism."

4a. Expression and Mechanics - Strong

4b. My paper is structured in a way that is easy to comprehend for the reader. I believe I had few
convention errors but not many. The essay is easy to understand and has the correct formality,
tone, and appropriate language style.
4c. "When only analyzing this songs lyrics and its music video, it is clear violence and race are
common themes but only when the authors history is analyzed, themes of violence and popularity
influence can be seen.
-
Artist XXXTentacion has said many vulgar things in person that can relate to his song "Look at
Me" like, "Everybody that called me a domestic abuser, I'm domestically abuse y'all little sister
pussy from the back (RYS). While comparing this to the songs lyrics, it is obvious where
connections lie."
