U knjizi Od Budima do Konstantinopolja Mihailo St. Popović ponudio nam je
minuciozno dokumentovanu studiju o trasi najvažnijeg vojnog i trgovačkog puta između Bliskog istoka i Srednje Evrope, između današnjeg Istanbula i Budimpešte. Kao osnov knjige poslužila je studija Konstantina Jirečeka Vojna cesta od Beograda do Carigrada i balkanski klanci. Autor je imao cilj da istraži istorijsko-geografske aspekte „vojne ceste“ u poznovizantijskom i ranoosmanlijskom periodu, pri čemu je koristio putopisnu literaturu nastalu u vremenu od 14. do 16. veka.
