METHODOLOGY

The apparatus used was a unit of Marcet Boiler and water as shown in figure below.

Marcet boiler - to investigate the relationship between the pressure and temperature of saturated
steam in equilibrium with water at all temperature levels between the atmospheric pressure and 6
bars.

Bourdon tube pressure gauge - to provide a direct indication of the boiler pressure.

Thermometer - to measure the temperature of a medium in a system

Safety valve - to ensure the vessel was filled to the correct level.

Discharge valve - to drain the vessel and remove the water

Electrical heater boiler – to supply energy source from 220/240V with 13A

EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

1. A quick inspection is performed before starting the experiment toensure the units is in
proper operating condition.
2. The Marcet boiler is connected to the nearest power supply.
3. Fill up the boiler with water to the marked level ( until the water drops through the opened
discharge valve).
4. Open the discharge valve and heat up the water like above figure.
5. Close back the valve when you notice steam starts to come out from the boiler. This is no
more air traps inside the water.
6. Record the temperature reading for each 0.5 bar increment pressure until it reaches 6 bar
(gauge pressure).
7. Stop the heating process.
8. Record again the temperature reading when pressure drops. Measurement should be taken
at every decreasing of 0.5 bar.
