‘The Department of Justice (Department is in receipt of your April 30, 2018, subpoena
(Subpoena), which identifies today as a deadline for response and references your classified
April 24, 2018 letter.
After careful evaluation and following consultations with the Office ofthe Director of
‘ational Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, andthe White House, the Department
thas determined that, consistent with applicable law and longstanding Executive Branch policy, it
{snot ina position to provide information responsive to your request regarding a specific
individual. Disclosure of responsive information to such requests can risk severe consequences,
including potential loss of human lives, damage to relationships with valued intemational
partners, compromise of ongoing criminal investigations, and interference with intelligence
activities,

to discuss whether there are other ways to accommodate the House Permanent Select Committee
