Re: NYSESLAT Accommodations

NYSESLAT Season is slowly approaching!

Please be advised that, according to the NYSESLAT School Administrator’s Manual,

students with disabilities must be provided with the testing accommodations specified
in their IEPs or 504 plans. Examples of such accommodations include the following:

 Administering the test in a separate location

 Reading all sections1 of the test to the student
 Repeating directions
 The use of a scribe

In compliance with NYSED, all English Language Learners are granted unlimited time
to complete the NYSESLAT.

To ensure that all ELLs with Disabilities receive their mandated accommodations,
please identify any students you may have who currently have either a 504 plan or an
IEP; additionally, please email me a list of these students no later than March 2nd,
2018.

Once you have identified your ELLs with Disabilities, please see to sitting in on each
student’s upcoming CSE or Annual Review Meeting; it is critical that we work with
school psychologists to ensure that the students’ testing accommodations are specified
appropriately on their Special Education documentation. This is particularly crucial for
our primary students, who may not yet have verbiage regarding testing accommodations
on their IEPs.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter, and please let me know if you have any
concerns.
