St. Jude Beacon 2018 05
Well into the 2018 Easter season we finally see Spring. We will need the
good weather for all that May has to offer – Mother’s Day, First Communions,
Graduations and more. I hope each member of our Council can take advantage
of the events in our parishes and on our Council calendar.
Our Council Fund-Raising efforts are doing very well with the Chapter Charity
Books, raising more than $2,000 this Spring for Council charities. Our April
Membership drives have been fruitful as well. We plan to send 7 new candidates
St. Jude, Pray for Us to a 1st Degree in May – well on our way to a Star Council Award.

time and plenty of popcorn!

to all. Coming up in May we will have more Saturdays in front of supermarkets selling
chance books – a good way to funds Council needs and meet prospects. Check
the schedule inside and call Paul to let him know which ones you can attend.
In May we will also hold a Family Social Night on May 16th. Come down to the
Council to enjoy a good dinner and fellowship with other Members and their
families.
For All who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our Country - Happy Memorial Day...
and Thank You.
Vivat Jesus,
The mercy of God will always be greater than our sins, and this is what we contemplate in the mystery
of the Virgin Mary. She plays a very important role in introducing us to God’s mercy, which is his deepest
attribute. Mary did not sin, but in the Magnificat she sang of the mercy of God (cf. Lk 1:46-55). God’s
mercy is a grace given to Mary in advance, by merit of the sacrifice of the cross. The effusion of mercy
that springs forth from the cross, from the very heart of Christ, is what purified Mary.
Everything is given and everything comes from the mercy of God, not from our merit but from the free
love of God. Mary is the richest of all creatures, the holiest and the most beautiful, but also the humblest
and poorest because she knows that she has received everything from God.
We see in the Gospels that the mercy of God is the greatest mystery and the most beautiful treasure.
However, we have a difficult time accepting it because we really have very little trust in God’s forgiveness.
This attitude can come about for certain reasons. Perhaps it has to do with human psychology, but
without a doubt, there is a lack of trust. We don’t really believe in this reality of the forgiveness of God,
and so we don’t always fully welcome it. God forgives us, but we can’t forgive ourselves.
We have difficulty accepting that we have to depend on the mercy of God. We would like to save
ourselves. We would like to be our own richness — to be rich based on our good actions and qualities.
To receive everything from the mercy of God — to accept that God is our source of richness and not
ourselves — requires a great poverty of heart.
Sometimes it’s good that we rejoice when we have accomplished great things. But in the moments
Hail Mary, full of grace, where we feel our poverty, we should also rejoice, because the good news is for the poor. Mercy is for
those who need it, who feel profoundly that they cannot save themselves. Our only hope is not through
the Lord is with you. our own works; it’s hope in the infinite mercy of God.
Blessed are you among women, Mary can help us open our hearts and eyes to the needs of our brothers and sisters. She motivates us
and blessed is the fruit to acts of love and mercy through her maternal grace. Her tenderness and love has the force of faith. It
can be compared to an army ready for battle. She’s strong against evil, but with an inner peace and
of your womb, Jesus. tenderness that she transmits to us.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Let us ask for the grace to welcome Mary into our hearts, to give ourselves to her so she can give us
pray for us sinners, now, what she has received from God. She will give us limitless trust, faith, humility, hope and thanksgiving,
and at the hour of our death. along with her loving and attentive gaze and the goodness that is so deep within her. By practicing all
of this with Mary, she will ask for what we need.
Amen.

It is May and I am hoping that Spring has finally arrived and is here to stay! In May your
Council hopefully will be announcing the new proposed slate of Officers for the upcoming
Council election in June. I know that all of the incoming Officers will do a fantastic job. At your
May meeting I will also give a Report on the New York State Convention that was held in April.
I was honored to represent our District there. The May Meetings will also be my final visit to your
Council as your District Deputy. I do not attend your Councils June election Meeting. I look forward
to bringing your new District Deputy, who will be announced at the Convention, along with me and having the
pleasure of introducing him to you. I know that your Council will welcome him, as you did me.
I would like to wish all of the Mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day in advance; I hope that you enjoy your Day. On
May 20th the New York State Council will be holding their Annual Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island.
There will be a Rosary walk at 10am, and Mass at 11:30am. All are welcome to attend. And finally I would like to remind
you that May 28th is Memorial Day. Please take a moment to think about a pray for all of those men and woman who
sacrificed everything so that we can enjoy all of the many Freedoms that we have in America.
