Blackman has a rich agricul-

tural history. But many of those farms
are being transformed into homes and
new businesses, especially as Veterans
Parkway begins to draw more develop-
ment like shopping centers and car deal-
erships.
Blackman still has its roots in com-
munity and is home to one of the long-
est-standing traditions in the county —
the Blackman Barbecue, held annually
on the fourth Friday in June.
Blackman elementary, middle and
high schools have been in the area for a
while. But three years ago Overall Creek
Elementary, a city school, opened its
doors.

Once considered the country, the
Barfield area of Murfreesboro now
