NDAC and Hidden Creek Art and Ecology Retreat have
joined forces again to host the third annual Wood Gundy
Hidden Creek Artist’s Residency, located at Grohman
creek, a short boat ride from the City of Nelson. Our col-
lective goal is to provide artists with a ‘retreat style’ setting
in order to work on or develop their art in the areas of
visual art, creative writing including music composition.
We are now accepting applications from local artists who
are interested in this program.
The residency consists of one week shared residency
with food allowance from Monday, August 20 to Sunday,
August 26 at Hidden Creek Retreat. Boat travel will be
provided to and from the retreat centre with one addi-
tional round trip for supplies and food if necessary.
Artists who are interested in applying for the retreat are
encouraged to e-mail a brief bio (two pages maximum)
along with images of recent work if a visual artist, samples
of written work, or a link to a YouTube video for musi-
cal work to info@ndac.ca. Also, please provide an Artist
Statement outlining how the Residency would contribute
to your professional and personal development (five pages
maximum). Submission deadline is Friday, June 8.

Mother’s Day brunch

Businesses celebrate
downtown Castlegar
On Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 there will be
lots of red heart balloons in Castlegar. Forty businesses
will be celebrating, for the second year in a row, the city’s
Chantel
downtown with an event called ‘I love Downtown Castle-
gar’. All of the participating businesses in the downtown
area – from the bottom of Serbico Hill to just past Castle
Theatre – will display red heart balloons outside of their
business. Each business will have their own draw and the
grand prize draw is $800 in ‘I love Downtown Castlegar’
gift certificates. The more businesses you visit, the more
chances to win the grand prize draw. No purchase neces-
sary to enter.
This weekend is a opportunity for each business to
showcase their business and tell their story. Each busi-
ness will have an offering, for example; a sidewalk sale,
store wide discounts, heart shaped pretzel and so much
more. This is a great weekend for locals and visitors to Chantel is a young, quiet girl that is looking for a calm home
walk around and learn more about the businesses located with someone interested in spending the time to get to know
downtown. The event pairs well with Castlegar Sculpure- her. She is timid at first but is very affectionate once she feels
