María Berns es cineasta y socióloga. Realizó estudios de posgrado en
México y Estados Unidos en sociología, cine y literatura, disciplinas que combina en sus trabajos de ficción y documentales. Fue la primera latinoamericana en ser becada por cuatro años por Artes Visuales de la Universidad de California en San Diego. Sus cuentos y artículos han sido publicados en revistas internacionales y sus películas exhibidas en festivales en los Estados Unidos y Europa incluidos el Dresden Film Festival y el Berlin Film Festival. Ha sido galardonada con becas y premios incluido el prestigioso Premio Kodak por su película La Novia. En Tijuana, produjo y dirigió sports para la UNICEF y dirigió el primer taller de cine para niños en Baja California. Fue cineasta visitante en la escuela de cine de Istanbul Bilgi University y en Rochester Institute of Technology donde filmó Historias Alrededor de una Cama, Jamaica en Invierno y Hielo Negro. En la Universidad de Texas en El Paso, terminó de escribir la novela De Ciervos y Mariposas que se encuentra adaptando al cine. Ha trabajado como guionista en Canal 11 de la Ciudad de México y en Telemundo. Después de diez años de trabajar como profesora en diversas escuelas de cine en universidades de los Estados Unidos, durante el 2008-2009 se desempeñó como Coordinadora de Corresponsales en NOTIMEX. Con una beca otorgada por el Instituto Veracruzano de Cultura desarrolló el proyecto Visit as Art en un barrio aledaño al centro de Veracruz y con el apoyo de National Geographic el documental Inglewood. Actualmente está posproduciendo el largometraje So Long que rodó en el Estado de Veracruz. SO LONG Una película de María Berns
