TECHNICAL MANUAL ‘SUPPLEMENT ‘Small Compressor Division INGERSOLLRAND COMPANY Campbelisville, KY 47218 T30 LOW OIL LEVEL SWITCH PART NUMBER 32276313 A WARNING Compressed Air Has Great Force. Gan Cause Severe Injury or Death. Always release air pressure from the compressor, air receiver and associated tubing and components before eervicing thie compressor. A WARNING Hazardous Voltage. ‘Can Cause Severe injury or Death. Always disconnect power supply before performing any maintenance or repalr work ‘on thie compressor. 1. PURPOSE. ‘The purpose of this publication is to provide meinte- nance and parts list information regarding the latest design improvements on your Ingersoll-Rand air com- pressor. The information contained herein has not yet been incorporated in the Instruction and Parts List Manuals provided with your compressor. 2. SCOPE. This supplement is applicable to all Type 30 (T30) air compressors manufactured afler April 1, 1994, Depend- ing on the air compreeeor purchased, the Low Oil Level Switch is available as either standard or optional equip- ment 3. PRECEDENCE. ‘The maintenance procedures contained in Paragraph 6 supersede the corresponding data in the Instruction Man- val supplied with your air compressor. When ordering ‘spare or replacement parts, the part numbers listed in Paragraph 8 should be used in place of those shown in the Parts List. This publication, along with the Inetruction Manual and Parts List should be kept in a location which is accessible to operation and maintenance personnel, 4. DESCRIPTION. A properly functioning Low Oil Level Switch is critical to the operation of your compressor. Operating the com- pressor with a defective switch can cause extensive ‘damage should the frame oil level drop to an unsafe point undetected. The switch is a single-pole, double- throw device, and ie NEMA 4 rated. Switch data ie lieted in Table 1 The low oil level switch does not alleviate the need to check the frame oil level in your compressor on a regu- lar basis (Refer to the SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. table In your Instruction Manual). Ingersoll-Rand Com- Peny cannot assume responsibility for any damage which might occur as the result of operating the com- pressor without adequate lubrication, AMPS: VOLTAGE 04 | 575 VAG PILOT DUTY 14__[_250 ve - NON-INDUCTIVE. w2__| 125 voc - NON-INDUCTIVE. 3412 _ | 24 VDC - NON-INDUCTIVE 10 125, 250, 480 VAC TABLE 1. SWITCH DATA, 5. OPERATION. If the il level in the compressor frame reaches an unsafe level, the float will cause the switch contacts to ‘open and shut down the unit. When the proper lubricant level has been restored, the float will reset toits original position, closing the switch contacts. The compressor ean then be restarted. 6. MAINTENANCE. Under normal operation, the low oll level switen re- quires no operator intervention or routine maintenance. Ifthe switch fails, as evidenced by frequently shutting off the motor, or failing to shut off the motor if the oil level drops to an unsafe point, it should be removed and Printed in the U.S.A. Please retain this information for reference. ADJUSTING THE PRESSURE SWITCH SETTINGS WARNING! High voltage is present at the pressure switch contacts when the power supply is connected. Disconnect, lock and tag main power supply before making adjustments. CAUTION! —_Do not adjust the pressure switch to exceed the maximum discharge pressure of the unit. Cut-off failure can occur by over adjusting the range nut. NOTE ‘Adjust the pressure switch only if adjustments are absolutely necessary. ‘To properly adjust the range, follow the instructions below: 4. Memove the pressure switch cover. 2. Agjuet the range by turning the range adjustment ecrow clockaiee (in) to increase the cut-out point or counter-clockwise (out) to deorease the cut-out point NOTE: One full tum (360°) changes the setting approximately 6 PSIG. 3. Replace cover, reconnect power supply and start the compressor. 4. Note the pressure gauge reading at which the compressor cuts out 5. Repeat adjustment procedure if necessary. PRESSURE SWITCH INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS, Diaphraam leaks can occur if a new pressure switch is installed improperty. During installation of a new pressure switch, do ‘ot tighten the pressure switch by turning the switch body by hand. Putting sideways pressure on the switch body puts stress (on the body-to-diaphragm connection and may cause later failure due to vibration, temperature expansion, or pressure, In addition, do not use the pressure switch assembly as a handle when moving the compressor. This places stress on the body-to-diaphragm connection and ean distor internal components. Failure can ocour by putting undue stress on the unloader body while tightening the unloader tubing with a wrench. Do not adjust the orientation of the pressure switch by turning the entre assembly with a wrench placed on the unloader connection. ‘TYPICAL PRESSURE SWITCH SETTINGS Minimum = Maximum ——_Differentiat ‘On Of (Non-Adjustable) 400, 175 30-40 (© ngorsol Rand Company Form 60D 914 Printed in USA July 2000 PART NUMBERS AND DESCRIPTIONS FOR PRESSURE SWITCHES “The pressure switch part numbers shown below are for 175 psi ar compressors thal ary equipped wilh standard NEMA 1 cleotrical onelocures HP MODEL 5 234015 SINGLE PHASE 20M0LS THREE PHASE 2.234085 2545N5-PS 2ATSNG STANDARD 2ATENS TOTALLY PACKAGED AND 74m 2478N7S 22475575 AND 2515NT SPS. 10 2545E10v 22sasni0v AND 2545610 2545K10 THODE10-PS 18 7100615 SSTEIS PS.
