In Equity an assignment of a debt by A to C was always

permitted. When C sued B to enforce the debt, C had to
join A to the proceedings.

At Law an assignment of a debt needs to meet the

requirements of s 12 of the Conveyancing Act 1919. If
met, C can sue B directly and without the need to join A
to the proceedings.
