Low Temperature Flexibility (ASTM C765)

Apparatus

1. Freezer -23°C
2. Aluminium Panel 0.635mm x 76mm x 152mm
3. Steel Panel Ø25.4mm
4. Vented air circulation over, 70°C

Procedure

1. Clean the aluminium panel with methyl ethyl ketone or similar solvent.
2. Cut the specimen in 102mm and place it in the center of the panel with its length paralleling
that of the panel, leaving the release paper in place on the preformed tape sealant.
3. Apply light finger pressure to ensure intimate contact of the specimen with the panel.
4. Place the specimen in a horizontal position in a forced draft oven and condition for 14 days
at 70°C ± 2°C.
5. Remove the specimen from oven and immediately place in horizontal position in freezer unit
and condition the steel mandrel at -23°C ± 2°C for 4 hrs.
6. After 4 hrs, while they are still in freezer, bend the test specimen 180° around the mandrel
with the aluminium panel next to the mandrel, using no more than 2s to make the bend.
7. Visually examine the specimen for cracking or loss of adhesion of the specimen to panel or
both and estimate the area such adhesion loss to the nearest 64.5mm².
