INSPIRATION
Hockey is probably my number one passion,
and I live and die by my favorite team, the
San Jose Sharks. I chose them when I was
younger simply because of their logo. The
colors, shapes, and use of imagery are so
unique. I wanted to integrate an element from
their logo into my brand. The three elements
I experimented with were the shark teeth, the
fins, and their deep teal, my favorite color.

Another huge passion of mine is the MCU, or Marvel

Cinematic Universe. The franchise started in 2008 when I was
only 12 and I have been hooked because of their awesome
storytelling and visual effects. This passion really drives me
to work harder and improve my skills. My favorite character
in the franchise is Captain American, so I decided to use the
typeface they use for his title art, American Captain.

1
My main interest as far as graphic design
goes is motion graphics. I believe when
you add the element of motion into your
designs, it adds a whole other dynamic that
really creates a compelling and effective
piece of art. I wanted to make that known
in my logo and brand so I wanted to
incorporate a play button into it.

This is a pen-rose triangle. After

deciding to use the play button in my
brand, I began to look at different
ways a triangle could be represented. I
stumbled upon a pen-rose triangle and
really liked the 3-D effect and the ability
to use more than one shade of color.

This is a diamond YouTube logo and it

inspired me to create my texture that can
be seen throughout my brand. I’ve always
liked two-poly design and how it can be
so simple, yet so elegant. I created my
texture using this style with only triangles.

2
SKETCHES

These were my very first sketches of

my logo. As you can see, I took a very
common approach to my logo and
wanted to use my initials. I thought the N
and the F had a lot of thick straight lines
that I v play around with and create a
nice flowing logo with one letter forming
out of the previous one.

3
4
FIRST CONCEPTS

After my initial sketches, I decided to take my process digital and play around inside
of Illustrator. The vector portraits above was a project I did in the past and ended
up using on social media, so I started to gravitate towards using that as I already
established a miniature brand with it.

5
To the left are some of the textures
I began to work with and develop.
I masked a two-poly texture into
some shapes attempting to combine
some of my assets. It was also at
this stage where I selected my color
palette unknowingly. I went with
shades of blue due to the Yankee hat
in my vector portrait.

The concepts to the left are more

initial logos using red and blue to
differentiate the letters. I felt that
these logos were kind of boring so
I was trying to find other elements
to play with. I thought of my
vector portraits and what elements
represented me and that was the
Yankee hat. Since the Yankees have
a lot of Championships pennants,
I began to incorporate some sort
of triangle, either long or short,
to symbolize and combine a play
button and my passion for sports.

After I knew my general direction with
NATE the triangle, I began to create concept
FARACI after concept swapping colors from
my new palette trying to find the right
combination. I used a circle with the
masked two-poly design to create
a play button and I thought I was
finally narrowing in on something. I
still wanted to use the triangle so I
NATE decided to create one using a thin
FARACI stroke with my name cutting through
and I thought it looked really clean
and sharp. However, after I designed
all these concepts and put them side
my side, I realized that the thick circle
mixed with the thin stroke just looked
and felt a little unbalanced.

Here are some other concepts of the

play button and pennant.

8
THIRD CONCEPTS After I moved on from the circle and
background color, all I was left with my
NATE NATE thinly stroked triangle, which was starting

FARACI FARACI
to grow on me. However, as clean as it
looked, I still felt like it was just too simple.
Simple isn’t bad, but I wanted something
a little more intricate. I did some research
on different triangles and discovered the
pen-rose triangle. I began messing around
with that, creating my own curved version
of the pen-rose, but I felt like my name
was taking a back seat in that design (seen
below). I thought about going back to a

NATE NATE simpler triangle, but implementing the pen-

rose into it. So I made the strokes of the
FARACI FARACI different shades smaller, spaced them out
from the middle and created my favorite
triangle yet. To the right are the two
different layouts I came up with using that
technique, now I had to decide on color.

It was at this point in my process where

I actually switched my color palette. I
wanted to make my brand a little more
personal. Even though the shades of
blue looked nice, they were just random
colors I adopted off a hat. I wanted
colors that actually meant something to

NATE
me. So I went back to my original goal of
implementing the Sharks into my design
by using their signature teal.

FINAL LOGO

NATE
FARAC I

I created two secondary logos. One

of just the typeface from the main
logo, and one from the triangles fully
combined into a play button triangle.

11
Here is my final logo. The last
change I made was fully committing
to making this brand personal by
changing the typeface to American
Captain to represent my passion for
movies and storytelling.

BRAND BOARD

Brand boards are a great way to

display your brand quick and easy with
just the main elements shown. I tried
to keep a theme throughout my brand
so my colors are represented with play
buttons and in the final draft I created
a triangle with my inspiration assets
and added more Avenir variations.

This is a simple envelope that I designed that I would use to mail out
my resume and any cover letters. In my first concept, I attempted
to make it look like a play button, but the middle is where the
address usually goes so I had to scratch that idea and move it from
the middle. I also moved my contact information because that is
where the stamp goes. Finally, I removed the texture because it just
looked a little too busy with it. The final version is much cleaner and
professional than my original concept.

LETTER HEAD A letter head is a nice way to stylize
and personalize a message. The
only noticeable difference from my
concept to my final is the opacity of
the textures in the corners. I think NATE
at full opacity they pop more, while FARAC I
also looking more clean, sharp, and
elegant. I was worried that they
textures might get in the way of text,
but I tested it there shouldn’t be any
issues with printing.

BUSINESS CARD

My first idea for the business card was of course,

a play button. I used my secondary logo for the
front because it made it look more like an actual
button, but I was hesitant because I wanted my
main logo on the front and I didn’t want two
different logos on it. The last two on the right are
my concepts for the back. I wanted to maintain
a sharp design so I was attempting to use sharp
edges and slanted shapes.

Here are my final business cards.
I switched my main logo in and
moved it to the side for a simple
front, and the back of my card
MOTION GRAPHICS ARTIST
has my title along with my contact
information tucked away into the
corner. I liked the look of both the
white and black, so I’m going to
have two variants of my card.
