Dasar-Dasar Kristalografi Pada Logam
Dasar-Dasar Kristalografi Pada Logam
menurut suatu pola tertentu.
suatu Kristal).
Cacat-cacat Kristal (Imperfection)
When the dislocation becomes a semicircle all of the line tension is acting
against the bending force induced by the shear stress because the line tension is
perpendicular to the horizontal between a and b. For the dislocation to reach this
point, it is thus evident that must be satisfied and from
which we can solve for the shear stress: . This is the stress required to
generate dislocation from a Frank Read source. If the shear stress increases any
further and the dislocation passes the semicircular equilibrium state, it will
spontaneously continue to bend and grow spiraling around the a and b pinning
points until the segments spiraling around the A and B pinning points collide and
cancel. The process results in a dislocation loop around A and B in the slip plane
which expands under continued shear stress and also in a new dislocation line
between A and B which under renewed or continued shear can continue to
generate dislocation loops in the manner just described. A Frank Read Loop can
thus generate many dislocations in a plane in a crystal under applied stress.
The Frank Read source mechanism explains why dislocations are
primarily generated on certain slip planes;dislocations are primarily generated in
just those planes with Frank Read sources. It is important to note that if the shear
stress does not exceed and the dislocation does not bend past the
semicircular equilibrium state it will not form a dislocation loop and simply revert
to its original state.
In the anomalous yield stress regime the strain-rate dependence β = (δτ/δ
ln ε) of the flow stress τ is proportional to (τ - τ y), where τy is identified with the
stress required to bow out edge dislocations to a near-critical Frank-Read source
configuration, at a level equal to that needed for the dynamic propagation of screw
dislocations. The conditions necessary for successful Frank-Read source operation
are discussed. In the microstrain region the source dislocations are predicted to
form loops elongated along the screw direction. Experiments on the 'partial
reversibility' of the yield stress with temperature are described; it is shown that β
is not reversible, but that the yield stress is instantaneously 'partially reversible'.
This is ascribed to the instability and 'running back' of some dislocation loops in
the microstrain region, on unloading. The temperature dependence of β/τ h is found
to reflect different obstacles at different temperatures. The temperature and strain-
rate dependences of the flow stress are formulated on a model in which the critical
step is the operation of Frank-Read sources.
FRANK-READ SOURCE
Under stress, a dislocation pinned at two points in the slip plane bulges
between them. The portions close to the pinning points rotate around them and
approach each other. As parts of a single dislocation, the approaching segments
have the same Burgers vector but opposite directions. In the insert, these segments
are assigned the same direction, so their Burgers vectors are opposite. Their
consequent annihilation pinches off an independent loop from the segment
attached to the pinning points. The region inside the loop has slipped; that outside
has not.
The screw segments moving towards each other have opposite twists.
Once they annihilate, the loop is free to expand and the recreated initial segment
bulges out to produce a second unit of slip.R Since all the segments have the same
Burgers vector, they produce the same slip despite different orientations and
directions of glide. As the two screw segments extending downward from the
pinning points move toward each other, the areas they traverse slip in the same
way, because they have opposite Burgers vectors when their assigned directions
are the same.
