Name Ms. Driscoll

Grade Level 3rd Grade
Subject Area Reading
CCSD Standard Curriculum Engine Standard RL.3.1, and NEPF Instructional Standards 2, 4, and 5

Introduction: (5 min) Put away personal items and take attendance.

Daily Reviews: (5 min) Brief review of homework reading from previous school night and any questions pertaining
to it before the daily quiz.

Daily Objective: (5 min) Explain that after we do the 5-question daily Quizlet as a test of yesterday’s reading, we will
read the next chapter in the book out loud in class and write a summary of the chapter to be
turned in at the end of class. Then they will re-read the chapter at home to themselves or
another person and have an adult sign off on the daily reading log, in preparation of
tomorrow’s daily Quizlet.
Concept and Skill Development Standard 2: Learning Tasks and Cognitive Demands – Depth of Knowledge, Level 1 -
and Application: (10 min) Recall
Use Quizlet to determine the student’s depth of knowledge as outlined in Standard 2. The
Quizlet has 5 questions about the chapter from yesterday. The student will take the quiz and
the quiz will be reviewed at the same time to see what information was retained and what
needs further discussion. Then discuss as necessary.
Guided Practice (Teacher led): Start reading the first couple pages of the next chapter in the book out loud to the students
(5 min) to get the next chapter going.

Group Practice (Whole class or Standard 4: Student Understanding of and Responsibility for Learning – Student Share
small groups): Progress
(35 min) Students will take turns reading the chapter out loud. They will use Padlet to post their
questions and brief comments while the reading is occurring, so they don’t forget what they
want to say, and they can all see what each other’s questions are. This will allow them to
share their progress as outlined in Standard 4 as well as show their understanding of the
material as it’s being reviewed. We will then discuss any questions students posted on the
Padlet. Finally, we will play a quick 5 question Kahoot game about the chapter we just read.
Independent Practice (Alone): Standard 5: Assessment Integrated Into Instruction – Evidence of Student Learning
(15 min) Students will reflect on today’s reading and write a short one paragraph summary of what
they learned from the chapter in a Google Doc to be turn in before the end of the class
period.

Per RL.3.3 CCSD Standard (Curriculum Engine), they will need to “Describe characters in a
story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to
the sequence of events.”

This will be done to give evidence of student learning during instruction as outlined in
Standard 5. This will also be used to give formative feedback.
Homework Assignments: (5 min) Explain the students will need to re-read the chapter to themselves or out loud to someone
at home and have a parent sign off on the daily reading log. Let them know they will have
their daily Quizlet tomorrow on today’s chapter.
Closure: (5 min) Review expectation for the evening with homework and ask for any questions the students
may have before they leave for the day.
