Holland Code Reflection
The Holland Code Aptitude Test helps represents a set of personality types described in a
theory of careers and vocational choice formulated by the late psychologist John L. Holland.
Although I had no idea what the name of the test was, I had taken it multiple times over the
course of my education. The first time I remember I took the test was in second (2nd) grade. The
results had less of the artistic portion of it, but my results still had social as the highest score. It
seems that my score hasn’t changed much.
Growing up, I was a shy kid and didn’t like talking much. When I first realized that the
test was correct was in my sixth (6th) grade year, I was just starting out on the clarinet and I was
about to understand the concept of music fast than the rest of the section. My band director at
that time, Mr. Perry, was encouraging me to help the other clarinet players. And so I did and I
knew at that moment that I love helping people. Helping wither that is with material or
physically, I feel special when I can make a difference. Going into middle school, I became a lot
more social and accepted that I was a shy kid that liked being around people.
Taking the Holland Code Test once more in high school, the results did not surprise me.
In fact, I feel like the test just helped reinforce the thought of being a social butterfly that likes
helping others.
