Caroline McArthur is my student at Glencoe High School in Hillsboro, Oregon. She has been a student and a vital
teacher’s aid in my art classes for three years and is an active member of our creative community.
I first met Caroline as a sophomore in my intermediate art class among mixed grade levels. Caroline adapted to an
active role in the studio by starting out with the basic assigned projects and evolving them into expansive artworks
filled with a personal culture. She would take the given concepts and constraints in each lesson and throw her own
spin on them after quiet discussion with her peers and I. Her curiosity in composition and willingness to work
through a project is evident in her modelling of form and balanced use of color. She has no problem making the
work her own while at the same time assisting and communicating with those around her in a collaborative
environment.
Perhaps Caroline’s most defined personality characteristic is her quiet pragmatism and introspection. She has a
willingness to apply herself to challenging environments and cut to the essence of “what needs doing”. Her focused
(and perfect) academics dealing with health sciences would put her in a good position to add to a medical learning
environment. While working with me she has demonstrated holistic qualities of attention to the overall reason of
working without getting lost in details or inefficiencies. This, combined with her formidable involvement in
extracurricular activities and athletics, are the reasons why I believe she will excel professionally. Whatever her
future focus, I was very pleased to have her laconic grit and sense of purpose in my classroom.
I highly recommend Caroline for any program she wishes to pursue, as long as her driven nature is reinforced and
nurtured. She is a strong will to have in class and sets a high bar for the community she is in. Please place her in a
position with full confidence in her abilities. Feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions as
to her character.
Sincerely,
Chris Hagerty
