Structural Crack repairing Procedure (Stitching):

1. At first placed steel I-section to support the cracked beam as a prop as-per prop layout
drawing.

2. Remove the plaster from beam and column using simple hand vibrating hammer.

3. Use the Stitching method of crack remedy described in the below points.

4. As-per Stitching method inject the bonding agent (Nitro Bond EA) inside the crack and fill-up
the crack using Grout.

5. Drilling holes on both sides of the crack and grouting in U-shaped metal units with short legs
(staples or stitching dogs) that span the crack as shown in Fig. Drilling holes that intersect the
crack plane at approximately 90 deg (Fig.4). The distance of the hole should be 15-18 in and
minimum depth should be 6 in.

6. Use 12mm dia bar and bars can be spaced 8-12 in. The bar can be placed in any desired
pattern, depending on the location of the in-place reinforcement.

7. Cleaning the holes and filling the hole with injected epoxy (FIS/EM REO 502) and placing a
reinforcing bar into the drilled hole.

8. Finally, finish the surface using plaster.

9. Steel propping can be removed after 3 days.

10. It should be remembered that retrofitting should be done in factory off time.

11. During construction all safety issue should be ensured as specified in Bangladesh National
Building Code (BNBC) in chapter 3.
