Item 1: Turning Circles

1.0 Location
Gate No 2, adjacent to refuse shed.
1.1 Description
 It was observed during early days of operation that trucks are failing to turn at the
junction of Road 2 and the Access Road therefore the turning radius was deemed
insufficient.
1.2 Recommendation
 Increasing the turning radius to 10m.
1.3 Procedure of work to be done
 Demolishing a part of the boundary wall (wall between two adjacent brick columns
close to the junction).
 Removal of the existing Kerbing on the curve.
 Clearing the area that will be part of the road.
 Construction of 2 base layers.
 Laying of hollow mountable kerbing.
 Asphalt surfacing.

2.0 Location
Junction of road No2 and road No 5 (Supermarket entrance).
2.1 Description
 It was observed during early days of operation that trucks are failing to turn at the
junction of Road 2 and Road 5 therefore the turning radius was deemed insufficient.
2.2 Recommendation
 Increasing the size of the turning circle. Taking off part of the island opposite the
supermarket entrance to allow for the expansion.

2.3 Procedure of the work to be done


 Removal of the existing Kerbing on the curve.
 Clearing the area that will be part of the road.
 Construction of 2 base layers.
 Laying of H3 type kerbing.
 Asphalt surfacing.
3.0 Location
Road 1 from chainage 80.00 to chainage 96.00.
3.1 Description
 Road failure due to high stresses exerted at the curve by heavy trucks as they turn.
3.2 Recommendation
 Removal of the asphalt surfacing and replacing with concrete surfacing upto
chainage 80.00.
3.3 Procedure of the work to be done
 Removal of the existing asphalt surfacing.
 Ironing out of base 1 compaction.
 Concrete surfacing.

Item 2: Open Vee Drain.

4.0 Location
Access road perpendicular to Bulawayo road.
4.1 Description
 Road pavement affected by groundwater ingress.
4.2 Recommendation
 Drainage.
4.3 Procedure of work to be done
 Construction of a Vee Drain along the access road, on the western side of the road
that will discharge to the outfall area.
