The Impact of parent engagement on learner success

This week’s reading discusses the term ‘parent engagement’ and ‘parent involvement’ and
how parents/carers can have such a major effect/influence on the success of children. These
terms can be used to describe the different roles and activities parents/carers can undertake
to best support their children at school and at home.

 “Parent engagement in the educational development of their children improves


attainment”.
 Research shows there is a clear relationship between the amount of parent
engagement and student success/achievement.
 Engaging parents has become more relevant and necessary over the past few
decades.

3. Opportunity to learn – developing a home learning environment that supports

5. Culture – foster a positive and warm environment
6. Role modelling – display the appropriate behaviours of a successful learner
