AUTOVAC HD VALVE ASSEMBLY PARTS DIAGRAM ‘AUTOVAC HD VALVE ASSEMBLY PARTS LIST. Recommended Spares Product Specifications .rnensssnmen Description ‘The AUTOVAC HD is a 3-way electrically actuated valve that provides accurate vacuum control on low vacuum units where the vacuum requirements range from 0 to 60" HO (0 to 152 cm HzO). The AUTOVAC HD will either regulate bleed air into the system or regulate the vacuum between the vacuum source and the low vacuum unit. There is no porting in the AUTOVAC HD to allow atmospheric air to flow directly into the vacuum header. Air bleed only occurs when commanded by the Distributed Control System (DCS) based on the input provided by 2 vacuum sensor connected to the drainage unit. Vacuum Mode: When the AUTOVAC HD is in VACUUM MODE air is drawn into the header at “A” connected to the drainage unit via piping at “B and flows through the characterized cutout in the vaive sleeve at “C’. Vacuum flow is regulated by the ‘amount of the cutout in the valve sleeve open to header vacuum as positioned by the rotary electric actuator at “D". Rotary actuator position is set via 4 to 20 mA signal from the DCS. 8.5 to 20 mA input locates the valve in VACUUM MODE. Increasing mA input equals increasing vacuum to the drainage unit (20 mA input = MAX vacuum). Bleed Mode: ‘The AUTOVAC HD will change to BLEED MODE ‘only when commanded by, the DCS. 4 to just below 8.5 mA input locates the valve in BLEED MODE. Decreasing mA input equals increasing bleed to the drainage unit (4 mA input = MAX bleed). Air flows through the Vent Screen at “A” to the drainage unit via piping connected at “B” to reduce vacuum level. Bleed air flow is regulated by how much of the vent cutout in the valve sleeve is open to the Vent Screen. Air flow to the vacuum header at °C" is completely shut off. Bleed Mode Mechanical Interfacing ‘The AUTOVAC HD connects to system piping via flanges designed to accept 4” 150# ANSI fianges (aly 8, 5/8" bolts), DN 100 PN 10/16 flanges (qty 8, M16 bolts), or DN 100 PN 6 fianges (aty 4, M16 bolts) making it universal and easy to plumb into existing field-welded piping. Total weight of the valve assembly is approximately 75 Ibs (34 kg). Electrical Interfacing ‘The AUTOVAC HD is designed to interface with a Distributed Control System (DCS) or other controller that provides a closed loop 4 to 20 mA output signal. Electrical connection to the valve is via 33 foot (10 meter) shielded watertight PVC cordset with stainless steel coupling. An optional 100 foot (30 meter) cordset with Adapter is available upon request. User inputs required: 40 20 mA Signal (Rotary Actuator positioning to control vacuum/bleed level) 24 Vde Power [0.9 A max draw] (Rotary Actuator power) NOTE: The actuator has a 1 A time-delay internal fuse and spare. If power to the actuator is lost and the fuse/circuit breaker at the mill electrical panel is closed but power to the actuator remains off, the fuse inside the actuator must be checked/replaced. To access the internal fuse remove the 4 screws holding the actuator cover to the base then lift off the cover. The fuse is located on the back side of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) near the top. It is opaque and cannot be visually inspected so a meter is needed to determine if it has blown. The replacement fuse is supplied in a plastic bag tucked in at the bottom of the PCB. 24 Vde Power (Vacuum Sensor) 4.mA output at 0” HzO (atmosphere) 20 mA output at 60" (254 cm) HO Vacuum A vacuum sensor installed under the vaive cover accepts a % NPT tube input plumbed from the unit and transmits vacuum level as a 4 to 20 mA output to the DCS through the cordset. NOTE: For highest accuracy and best control, connect the vacuum sensor tube directly to or as close as possible to the drainage unit in a port above the unit water line. Plumbing the ‘sensor tube into the 1% NPT port at the base of the valve or just downstream from the flanged inlet will result decreased accuracy/control. Reference the figure below. If the Breather Filter (35) becomes plugged @ vacuum will develop under the fiberglass cover (not shown) causing the Vacuum Sensor (21) to output an erroneous signal to the DCS. To prevent this from occurring the sensor is equipped with a Vent Tube and Filter that allow accurate signal output even if the compartment under the cover is under vacuum. Breather Filter (35) should be spared and replaced as required depending on the amount of particulate in the air where the Autovac HD is installed. The Vacuum Sensor Vent Filter however should not need replacement; the Vent Tube is internally sealed inside the Vacuum Sensor and no vacuum is drawn across the Teflon diaphragm in the Vent Filter. VACUUM SENSOR VENT TUBE: ‘VACUUM SENSOR VENT FILTER Installation Instructions The drawings on pages 8 and 9 show how to connect the AUTOVAC HD to system piping and the DCS for drainage units with a Drainage Seal System or AirWater Separator respectively. Installation notes ‘+ The AUTOVAC HD must be installed vertically. Bypass piping is recommended to facilitate on the run cleaning and maintenance. A Drainage Seal System or Air/Water Separator is required between the AUTOVAC HD and drainage unit. * Vacuum piping between the unit and the separator should not have any low sections where water can collect. + IMPORTANT - The AUTOVAC HD valve assembly weighs approximately 75 lbs (34 kg) and must be securely supported when plumbed into system piping. * Refer to page 26 for envelope dimensions. * Electrical interface with the Distributed Control System is via Cordset provided with the valve. Cordset interfaces with the DCS are: 4-20 mA Signal for Rotary Actuator position 24 VDC Power for Rotary Actuator (0.9 A max draw) 24 VDC Power for Vacuum Sensor 420 mA output 4 mA output at 0” HzO (atmosphere) 20 mA output at 60” (152 cm) HzO Vacuum + IMPORTANT — The Cordset is shielded to prevent electrical noise from disrupting the 4-20 MA signals. The bare shield (drain) wire must be cut off and not connected to ground. Cordset shielding is attached to the coupling nut which ties to ground through the connector mounting plate and system piping. Connecting the bare shield (drain) wire to ‘ground would provide a secondary ground path and the possibility of ground loop issues. sans sue Yen a [SEN eo oc sue pr a SES 2 i [Jews nme (wiajsig jeeg eBeujesq) uopeyessul GH OWAOLNY IeOldAL saree ota mf \ "ae einen | aeses woes 04 sear rasa ver owes anos Yow 9 ea xy tral v specter (os #0 ao Ys Fos: scr 2 a 4 as Tn 3 9 SH | rescra[ooou | ic ceon| oe (opetedes s8}eY/4ty) YORE!e:SU] GH OVAOLNY 1e910AL Operating Instructions Distributed Control System ‘The AUTOVAC HD operates automatically. Simply input the desired vacuum level for the drainage unit into the Distributed Control System. The DCS will compare the present vacuum level measured by the Vacuum Sensor to the target level input and send the corresponding signal to open or close the valve for more or less vacuum or bleed. Maximum Bleed Mode is at 4 mA. ‘As mA signal increases the actuator rotates the internal valve sleeve to reduce the vent opening and increase vacuum. This can be observed by looking through the Vent Screen. Bleed Mode is active between 4 mA to approximately 8.5 mA. At just below 8.5 mA the valve is OFF with both header vacuum and bleed vent closed. \Vacuurn Mode is active from 8.5 mA to 20 mA with increasing current corresponding to increasing vacuum flow to the drainage unit. Maximum Vacuum Mode is at 20 mA. If Signal or Power to the Autovac HD is lost the valve fails in its last operating position. Operational Inspection To check if the AUTOVAC HD is functioning properly connect power, signal and ground per Cordset Wire List and Termination Points table on page 4 and rotate the valve using the procedure described below. 1) Apply 24 VDC power (0.9 A max draw). 2) Set signal current to 4 mA. 3) Verify the rectangular cutout in the plastic valve sleeve is centrally located in the window in the stainless steel valve housing and fully open for maximum flow (reference illustration below). ) 0 ) 0 if ) ‘if Edges of Valve Sleeve Vent Cutout centrally located in cast Valve Body Window. " 4) Increase signal current to 6.4 mA and observe the vent cutout in the sleeve is closed about half way (reference illustration below), wey 12 5) Increase signal current to 8.5 mA and observe the vent is now fully closed. NOTE: The Valve Sleeve is now blocking the vent opening in the stainless steel Valve Housing. Use the indexing siot machined in the Valve Sleeve to verify max open vacuum position. 6) Increase signal current to 20 mA and observe the indexing slot is lined up approximately with the ‘edge of the Vent Screen as shown in the illustration below. When the slot is in this position the vacuum port in the Valve Sleeve will be fully open to header vacuum. Index Slot in Valve Sleeve |. Edge of Vent Window 2B Maintenance The AUTOVAC HD is a low maintenance valve. The Breather Filter should be replaced as required depending on the amount of air-bome particulate where the valve is installed. Cleaning essentially consists of flushing out the Valve Housing, Valve Sleeve and Vent Screen to remove fiber build-up. Normally the AUTOVAC HD should be inspected and cleaned every six months. Any fiber build up can be easily washed out. Excessive fiber build-up or frequent cleaning may indicate inadequate air/water separation ahead of the AUTOVAC HD. Inspections and cleaning do not have to be performed on a machine down day. With the use of bypass piping the AUTOVAC HD can be removed and cleaned on the run Disassembly Procedure for Routine Cleaning and Maintenance: Reference the exploded view on page 15. 1) Set the AUTOVAC HD on bypass to isolate it from the drainage unit and vacuum header. 2) Disconnect the Cordset from its mating Receptacle on the Cover. Disconnect the tubing to the Vacuum Sensor port located on the underside of the Cover. 3) Remove qty 4, M12 hex head cap screws and flat washers holding the Cover to the Valve Body. 4) Lift the Cover via Lifting Flange vertically until the Valve Sleeve slides out of the Valve Body. NOTE: The Valve Sleeve is held to the Drive Disk by 2 Retaining Washers allowing the sleeve to be cleaned while assembled to the Cover. Do not direct pressurized water at the Breather Vent installed on the underside of the Cover Flange. 5) Flush the Valve Housing, Valve Sleeve, and Vent Screen to remove any built up fiber. A weak caustic solution may be used if necessary but always rinse completely with water. 14 Lifting Flange ———> Valve Cover AUTOVAG HD Valve ——>} Sleeve M12 Screw ——| & Washer Cordset Exploded View Disassembly for Routine Maintenance 15 Reassembly Procedure Following Routine Cleaning and Maintenance: Reference the exploded view on page 15. 1) Inspect the o-ring installed on the Cover Flange hub and replace if damaged. 2) Slide the Valve Sleeve into the Valve Body. Faulty vacuum signal output to the DCS can erroneously be interpreted as a problem with the AUTOVAC HD. Also perform the operational check outlined in the operational inspection section to see if the valve is functioning properly. PROBLEM: No response or erratic response of the AUTOVAC HD to a change in commanded vacuum level. CAUSE: Valve ports are clogged with fiber and/or filler. SOLUTION: Clean the valve. * Follow ‘Disassembly Procedure for Routine Cleaning and Maintenance:” and “Reassembly Procedure Following Routine Cleaning and Maintenance:" to disassemble, flush and reassemble the valve. * Frequent clogging may indicate inadequate air/water separation. PROBLEM: No response or erratic response of the AUTOVAC HD to a change in commanded vacuum level. CAUSE: The Actuator has malfunctioned. SOLUTION: Replace the Actuator. + Replace the actuator only after it has been established the valve is clean and the vacuum and vent ports in the Valve Housing and Valve Sleeve are clear. + Remove the faulty actuator by following “Disassembly Procedure for Rotary Actuator Replacement:*. ‘Install the replacement actuator by following “Reassembly Procedure following Rotary Actuator Replacement:”. PROBLEM: The AUTOVAC HD is not functioning properly, neither cleaning the valve nor replacing the Actuator resolves the problem and there is no bypass piping to regulate vacuum to the drainage unit. SOLUTION: Manually set the AUTOVAC HD. «Access the Rotary Actuator by following "Disassembly Procedure for Actuator Manual Override:”. Reference the views on pages 23, 24, and 25. ‘* To set the AUTOVAC HD for Vacuum Mode position the cutout in the Valve Sleeve for maximum vacuum then decrease until the required vacuum level is reached. To do this, rotate the Manual Override Shaft counterclockwise (viewed from the top) using a small adjustable wrench until the 2 Index Slot in the Valve Sleeve is lined up approximately with the edge of the Vent Window (reference view on page 13). At this point the valve is set for maximum vacuum. Reduce vacuum to the drainage unit by tuming the Manual Override Shaft clockwise (viewed from the top) and observing the Index Slot moves to the right (counterclockwise) toward the sloping edge of the Vent Screen window. Reference the view on page 23. NOTE: The Manual Override Shaft must be turned many times to affect movement of the Valve ‘Sleeve due to high gear reduction in the actuator. ‘* Continue rotating the Manual Override Shaft CW as required to reduce vacuum. The Index Slot may need to be rotated beyond the Vent Screen window to achieve desired vacuum level to the unit. NOTE: If the Manual Override Shaft is rotated too much the vacuum port in the Valve Sleeve will close to header vacuum and the vent cutout will become visible in the Vent Screen (reference view on page 12). ‘+ To set the AUTOVAC HD for Bleed Mode rotate the Manual Override Shaft clockwise (viewed from the top) until the rectangular shaped vent cutout in the Valve Sleeve is visible and centrally located through the Vent Screen (reference view on page 11). At this point the valve is set for maximum bleed. Reduce bleed to the drainage unit by tuming the Manual Override Shaft counterclockwise (viewed from the top) and observe the vent window in the Valve Sleeve closes. Reference the view on page 24. Adjust the amount of bleed air to the drainage unit by the amount of cutout visible through the Vent Screen, The greater the visible cutout the more the drainage unit is vented. NOTE: Make sure that the cutout in the Valve Sleeve visible through the Vent Screen is the rectangular shaped vent port not the triangular shaped vacuum port. Positioning the vacuum port in the Vent Screen will open the drainage unit simultaneously to both vent and vacuum lines resulting in an unstable condition. Reference the view on page 25.
