The time we spend in elementary, middle and high school are experiences that will mold us for
our future. As one who aspires to be a positive example for the rising generations, I wish to help
students develop the literary skills they will need to succeed in their future lives and careers. I
was drawn to this job opportunity because I wish to influence students in a positive environment.
I will graduate from Brigham Young University—Idaho in two years with a degree in English.

As a teacher’s aid during my senior year of high school, I was able to assist in grading and
helping students that spoke a language other than English with reading. I enjoyed these learning
experiences because I was able to understand more of what took place behind the scenes that
students do not see. These tasks allowed me to evaluate how the students were doing in the class
and allow the teacher to see that progress as well. I also helped to supervise the students in the
instances where there was a substitute and I was able to aid in instructions for assignments and
the attendance. During my junior and senior year of high school, I took Advanced Placement
(AP) English Composition and Advanced Placement (AP) English Literature. I feel like these
courses have given me a deeper understanding of English and the different tools used by authors
to influence the reader. I also took a fundamentals of literary interpretation class which allowed
me to look at texts from a plethora of different lenses. I think that these classes would aid me in
this position by allowing me to teach my students how to look at texts differently than from their
own perspective as a student.
