DISCOVERY EARLY YEARS

A BEACONHOUSE SCHOOL

Term II –Class II

Dear Parent or Guardian:

I am writing to tell you about an exciting project we have started in our class.

As you know, at DEY, we use the teaching method of Project Based Learning (PBL), to help students
learn in a more real life environment. A project motivates learners to gain knowledge along with
application of concepts from their curricular subjects. This also gives learners a chance to apply and
practice skills they learn in school to personally relevant and real world situations. Your child also learns
how to think critically, solve problems and make presentations. These skills will help learners succeed
in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.

Our Project is called “Community Helpers!!” and it will last for 4-5 weeks. The problem they will be
investigating about is “How can I be a responsible citizen?”

Subjects integrated are: English, Social Studies, Science and Art.

Students will start by suggesting activities they would like to have in their project, they will identify how
and what makes us a responsible person. They will brainstorm ideas on being responsible and also
come up with their own class rules.

Furthermore, they will identify what are needs and wants and discuss about the real cause of
happiness. They will be involved in interviewing and collecting data about different community
helpers and what are their needs further arranging a party for them to acknowledge their needs.

Students will be assessed individually on their content knowledge, their collaboration skills and their
presentation skills. We will be sending rubrics for each individual assessment as they are conducted.
You may find them useful in understanding what is required from the students during a project. If you
have any queries feel free to ask us on Edmodo

Tayyiba Khalid and Kiran Ahmed
