EXPERIMENT 4

1.0 TITLE : SCREW THREAD MEASUREMENT

2.0 ABSTRACT

From this experiment, we are able to discover the screw thread measurement technique.
A screw thread, often shortened to thread, is a helical structure used to convert between
rotational and linear movement or force. Besides that we have recognized the importance
and need for a proper and precise measurement. During the entire lab session , we had
follow all the instructions given by our lecturer in order to complete this experiment
successfully.

3.0 INTRODUCTION

3.1 OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the experiment we are able to:
 Identify the elements of screw thread through the measuring practice by
using measuring instrument such as vernier caliper , vertical optical
comparator and horizontal optical comparator.
 Perform basic dimensional measurement of screw thread by using
appropriate measuring equipment.
 Demonstrate the calibration skill for basic measuring equipment.
3.2 SCOPE

In this lab activity we are in 4 members in a group cover screw thread topic in

measurement. We are practicing in measuring the basic measurement equipment

such as vernier caliper, horizontal optical comparator and vertical optical

comparator to obtain the dimension of screw thread. Record the calibration result

on the provided calibration forms do the measurement for the required dimension.

Record the data After complete on the measurement part, we assigned person to

do verification before taking data. To identify the Metric of Screw Thread refer

to provided Standard Metric of Screw Thread. Write down the metric system for

each screw in a data. Then calculate uncertainty type A for each dimension for

each screw. Based from the data recorded we are able to complete the lab report

that conform to the basic requirement. The scope of the experiment is to identify

the elements of screw thread by perform and demonstrate the basic calibration

skill of a screw thread through the measuring practice.
