"Two perpendicular chords each 6 m from the center of
the circle of radius 13 m cut the circle into four parts.
Find the area of the smallest part."
a) 18.48 sq. m
b) 35.07 sq. m
c) 51.66 sq. m
d) 16.59 sq. m
"If the water surface in a vertical cylindrical tank is rising
at the rate of 2 mm per second when water is flowing
into the tank at the rate of 5 liters per second, what is the
diameter of the tank?"
a) 1.874 m
b) 1.487 m
c) 1.784 m
d) 1.478 m
V= pi(d²/4)(h)
DV/dt = pi(d²/4)(dh/dt)
(4)(5liters/sec)/(1000liter/m³)/((2mm/sec/(1000mm/m)= (pi)(d²)
d= 1.784m

A die is tossed. If the number is odd, what is the probability that it

is prime? Odd (1,3,5) prime # (3,5) ans. 2/3

What is the volume of the largest box that fits in an

ellipsoid whose major axes are of lengths sqrt 3, 9, and
1/8?
Using AM-GM Inequality:
The volume of the rectangular box inscribed in the ellipsoid will be V =
xyz.
Given the major axes √3, 9 and 1/8, the equation of the ellipsoid is:
x²/a² + y²/b² + z²/c² = 1
x²/(√3)² + y²/(9)² + z²/(1/8)² = 1
x²/3 + y²/81 + 64z² = 1
Using AM-GM inequality:
(A+B+C)/3 ≥ (ABC)^(1/3)
(x²/3 + y²/81 + 64z²)/3 ≥ [(x²/3)(y²/81)(64z²)]^(1/3)
Simplifying,
1/3 ≥ (4/3)(x²y²z²/9)^(1/3)
1/4 ≥ (x²y²z²/9)^(1/3)
1/64 ≥ x²y²z²/9
9/64 ≥ x²y²z²
xyz ≤ 3/8
Therefore the volume of the largest rectangle is
V = 8xyz
V = 8(3/8)
V = 3 units³
