EVS-EN353-1:2014 Introduction ‘This European Standard is intended to act as a complementary standard for ex’sting European Standards covering other components used in personal fall protection systems. ‘The scope and the requirements are based on the philosophy that a guided type fall errester including a rigid ‘anchor line is rated to sustain the maximum dynamic load generated in a fal from a height by the mass of ‘one person, including any equipment carried. This European Standard provides requirements and test methods for guided type fall arresters including a rigid anchor line used in personal fall protection systems in accordance with EN 363. nce. This anchor line is usually attached to or integrated in ladders or rungs adequately fixed to suitable structures. Guided type fall arresters including a rigid anchor line conforming to this European Standard are components of one of the fall arrest systems covered by EN 363. This European Standard applies to rigid anchor lines which are intended to be installed vertically and/or with ‘2 combination of forwardleaning angle and/or sideways leaning angle between the true vertical and the vertical +15° (see Figure 2), Muti-user applications, i.e. rigid anchor lines that allow more than one user to be attached at any one time, are not addressed in this document. 2 Normative references The following documents, in whole or in part, are normatively referenced in thie document and are indispensable for its application. The objective of the performance tests is to confirm the arrest of a fall is made is in line with the test requirements i, arrest load and distance. The objective of the function tests is to confirm correct operation of the guided type fall arrester locking feature(s) under foreseeable conditions of Use using minimum and/or maximum reted loads, The purpose of this test is to check the locking function of the guided type fal arester at a low temperature (i. @ temperature not warmer than 30°C). This test is carried out using a 100 kg rigid steel test mass. The purpose of this test Is to check the locking function of the guided type fel arrester when a user is positioned close to the rigid anchor line and in contact wth the guided type fall arrester, The potential for a fall backwards has been addressed in the fall back function test. A load is applied to the guided type fall arester in an Unlocked condition to represent a typical backwards load that could be expected in service. This test has been intoduced to check the locking function of the guided type fall arrester and the integrity of a guiding bracket on a rigid anchor line made of wire rope in the event of a fall ocourring with the guided type fall arrester positioned directly on the guiding bracket. The potential for loading the guided type fall arrester ina sideways direction has been addressed in this function test. The sideways test is conducted using the maximum rated load only as this will apply higher stresses on the guided type fall arrester and rigid anchor ine, This test covers a sideways learing ancher line with ‘an angle up to 15° from the vertical and was inctided to cover foreseeable conditions of use. 42 Single-user licence.
