Q1: Drive the expression of current and voltage of the circuits shown below (Choose two
only).

25 Marks
(a) (b) (c)

Q2: A\ Determine how much the Q-point (IC, VCE) for the circuit in Figure below will
change over a temperature range where β𝐷𝐶 increases from 70 to 250. It should
be noted that the value of 𝑅𝐶 and 𝑅𝐵 are 960 Ω, and 500 kΩ respectively.
Further, draw the load line graph showing the Q point in it.

15 Marks

Q2/B: Design a circuit using emitter bias that operates from dc voltages of +12 V and -12 V.
The maximum IC is to be 20 mA and the Q-point is at 10 mA and 4 V.

2. Ideally, a dc load line is a straight line drawn on the collector characteristic curves between
(a) the Q-point and cutoff (b) the Q-point and saturation (c) VCE(cutoff) and IC(sat)
3. The input resistance at the base of a biased transistor depends mainly on
(a) β𝐷𝐶 (b) 𝑅𝐵 (c) 𝑅𝐸 (d) β𝐷𝐶 and 𝑅𝐸

5. In a voltage-divider biased npn transistor, if the lower voltage-divider resistor opens,
(a) the transistor is not affected, (b) the transistor may be driven into cutoff, (c) the transistor may be
driven into saturation, (d) the collector current will decrease.
