Write a Job Description

Directions: Select one staff position of a child care center for which to write a job description in
the space below. Include details about the duties and responsibilities of this staff member as
well as requirements to prepare for this type of work. Share with other students and hear what
they wrote for other staff positions. Make sure you include the position name, qualifications and
a description of responsibilities.

Job Description
Position/Staff Role: Head Teacher

Purpose of the Position: To supervise the total program of the individual classroom.

Qualifications:B.S. degree in child development, Early childhood education, or related

field that includes a minimum of 18 hours of coursework relevant to work with children
and families or an A.A degree that includes 18 hours of coursework in child-related
studies and two years of successful experience in child care.

Responsibilities:Head teachers are responsible for conducting the program in the

classroom in accordance with the policies established by the board of directors and
interpreted by the program director.
